Conservatives target Rudy
Newsday ^ | Feb 8 2007 | CRAIG GORDON

WASHINGTON -- Eager to head off Rudolph Giuliani's recent gains in the polls, conservative activists this week strengthened their attacks, with some promising to step up their efforts on the Internet, talk radio and "below-the-radar" to discredit him going forward.

They are taking direct aim at one of Giuliani's strongest selling points, at least to some backers -- that he is the Republicans' best hope of stopping Hillary Rodham Clinton.

These critics argue that his nomination would prompt a conservative third-party candidate to join the race and split the GOP vote, clearing the way for Clinton's election.

"There's no way conservatives could stand for Giuliani becoming the Republican nominee," said Richard Viguerie, one of the founders of the modern conservative movement. "I guarantee whoever the Democrats nominate would be the next president."

~ship~

He backed off his earlier opposition to a ban on the medical procedure referred to as partial-birth abortion, and expressed support for gun owners' Second Amendment rights, even though as New York mayor he sued gun manufacturers and argued that more guns lead to more crime.

~snip~

So social conservatives -- for whom Giuliani's support for abortion rights, gun control and gay unions are anathema -- are speaking out. Some say they would use the tools at their disposal to tell voters about Giuliani's social stances.

Viguerie, a direct-mail pioneer, argued it no longer takes millions of mailings to make the case, thanks to talk radio, the Internet and other "below-the-radar" media.

Tony Perkins, head of the conservative Family Research Council, told a conservative radio host that Giuliani's positions are "far outside the mainstream of conservative thought ... Once people focus on this election and the candidates, Giuliani's lead will diminish."

Ever read Roe? If it is established that the child in the womb is a person, Roe itself says what I said. The science is as clear as it could possibly be: Human life begins at conception. DNA and all, you know.

Too bad your brilliant argument (at least by your own lights) has not been accepted for over thirty years. That's what happens when you live in a nation where everyone is much less intelligent than you are -- they just won't accept your superiority. It stinks to be outvoted by your inferiors, doesn't it?

"Londoners wish he would come and run London instead of Red Ken."

Now that's an idea! His views on abortion, gun control and immigrant invasion seems quite well aligned with the socialist in London.

You know he was chairman until the dems took over.
For someone who lives in a state that just turned blue, you might want to take care of over the rhine or go dot your i.

Stop please calling fellow Republicans names.

No. I'll call a liberal a liberal as long as I have breath, and I'll do it here as long as I feel like it, and our host will have me.

With our 2-party system, this is a very broad party.

Wooly-heads like yourself want to turn the GOP into such a broad party that it includes baby killers, gay activists, gun grabbers and open borders quislings. Such a party is worthless and leaves America with two evil parties.

You have no more right to define it than I do or anyone else who aligns with it. So...who really is the "RINO"?

Typical liberal fuzzy thinking.

Do you mind if I ask you a few questions? If you don'/t care to answer them that's okay.

How old are you?

Just HOW involved are you/have you EVER been in politics...1)you watch T.V., listen to the radio and vote 2) #1 and you stick a yard sign in your lawn ands/or a sticker on your car 3) #1 and #2 you have plan on addressing/stuffing envelops 4) #1,2,3, and you man phone banks and/or go door to door 5) all of that and more.

How long have you taken an active interest in politics and how much factual political history do you really know?

What's happening is that primary season got pushed up, further and further in the past decade or so, the GOP stopped grooming future candidates, and Rudy is NOT nearly as liberal as you claim he is.

Do you think Dred Scott should still be standing because of stare decisis?

No, because Dred Scott was overruled by a Constitutional Amendment.

Being a purist in your own little world I can understand you don't have a clue what is going on even in your little world

Hooten Dunkin is polling between 1% and 2% no one even knows who he is. Super Tuesday is less then a year away. They front-loaded the primaries....

He has as much chance as being the next POTUS as Custer's Bugler.

The 11th commandment is a fallacy.

At least we didn't vote for Kerry and we don't have BOX-O-ROX representing our state in the Senate. Over thirty million, and THAT'S the best you can do????

Wouldn't have happened had a decent Exec branch been in place, a priori.

What? You've forgotten all of the druggie posts, people calling him a "moron", claiming that he was "anointed", and posting that mendacious libel about the never happened Mexican abortion?

Nobody has explained how that moron pulled a Jedi Mind Trick on the US Senate and bamboozled them into voting for the Iraq War.

It isn't "cross dressing" when one is in a play or skit and far more people, in the REAL WORLD, understand that, than you suppose. Heck, even high school football players in OK. dress up like women, to raise money.

Do you like abortions? Do you have any idea what happens to that little baby? How can you be so cold and crass about something like that? Here, check out this site, the pictures are graphic, but you just might become enlightened

Guys in the military, in fraternities, football teams, fraternal organizations, etc, dress up like that for fun. It doesn't make them transvestites...Maybe they have a sense of humor, can laugh at themselves. Not a bad approach.
