Dutch PM says Europe does not need constitution
Radio Netherlands ^ | Februari 08 2007

At a public administration congress, Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende has said that Europe does not need a constitution, but rather a new, simpler, treaty supplementing existing agreements. The prime minister's remarks were aimed directly at European Commission chairman José Manuel Barroso, who is visiting the Netherlands. Earlier this week, Mr Barroso said the Netherlands should quickly find a solution to the impasse created when the Dutch people in a referendum rejected the European constitution. Mr Barroso did express his appreciation for the passages regarding the European Union in the coalition agreement presented today. Mr Balkenende said he first wants to achieve broad consensus on the kind of Europe that the Netherlands wants. The new cabinet wants to increase cooperation with the European Union, in all areas except pensions, social security, taxes, education and public health.

Good on the dutch. Why sign your sovereignty away to be controlled by brussels(Read: french/german axis to control europe)?The EU constituion is a soviet lite non-democratic socialist document. Only a fool would want their nation signed to this when you all can just have free trade and alliances that doesnt over take your nation.

I agree completely, but what to say about the second part of his satement. Surely a nation comprises of more than social security, taxes and public health?

The new cabinet wants to increase cooperation with the European Union, in all areas except pensions, social security, taxes, education and public health.

Well if you exclude those I guess the only thing the EU will handle is defense and the amount of curvature of bananas.

Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende

Great news! It sounds like Balkenende isn't going to let the Dutch be hung by an EU constitution written by the French and Germans! Smart, very smart.

When you have bureaucrats to run your life, who needs a constitution?

The guy said today the EU constitution is not needed, but he actually kicked the can down the road, allowing the advisory committee on the subject to propose the next referendum to the Dutch about joining the EU constitution.

Holland is falling close to the abyss.

BELIEVING that Europe, reunited after bitter experiences, intends to continue along the path of civilisation, progress and prosperity, for the good of all its inhabitants, including the weakest and most deprived;

Yep, legalized abortion & euthanasia for the weakest and deprived European inhabitants after better experiences.

And the best of all preambles:

Conscious of their responsibility before God and man,

Inspired by the determination to promote world peace as an equal partner in a united Europe, the German people, in the exercise of their constituent power, have adopted this Basic Law.

The Germans in the Länder of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, and Thuringia have achieved the unity and freedom of Germany in free self-determination. This Basic Law thus applies to the entire German people.
