Pelosi Blames Sexism, Rummy for Plane-Gate
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Nancy Pelosi has decided to play the gender card. For good measure, she's thrown in a soupcon of Rumsfeld-phobia. MSNBC just aired a clip of Pelosi making the following remarks on the issue of her demand to the Pentagon for a large plane:

"I don't even know the numbers of the planes. So this is something that is really very strange. That the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, which I have been a constant critic of the war in Iraq, and where I understand Mr. Rumsfeld still has a desk, even though he's no longer the Secretary, has decided that they would go public about a conversation on an issue that applied to the previous Speaker. Now, as a woman, as a woman Speaker of the House, I don't want any less opportunity than male speakers have had when they have served here."

View the video of one angry Pelosi here.In to discuss the matter with host Norah O'Donnell were Kelly Dingell, Dem strategist, and Cheri Jacobus, GOP strategist. Cheri actually offered some very sound advice to the Speaker:

"The biggest mistake that Nancy Pelosi can play right now is to try to play a victim. This business that this is happening to her because she's a woman is ridiculous. She's asked for a larger plane, she's asked for something more than what the previous Speaker had. It's ridiculous and naive of her to think that people aren't going to look at this and want to know why. She's talking about this ethical Congress, they're supposed to be big environmentalists. I think it's ridiculous for her to make this about her being a woman, and a huge mistake on her part."

Dingell and O'Donnell emphasized that Pelosi was seeking a plane that could fly her home to California non-stop. But as many readers have pointed out, that in no way justifies the need for the 162-seat behemoth Pelosi has been seeking. There are any number of executive-sized jets with more than enough range to go California dreamin' -- non-stop.

When Dingell suggested there was good reason to suspect that someone "leaked" the story, Jacobus had a telling rebuttal: "I have a problem with the term 'leaked.' It shouldn't be a secret. Is it something [Pelosi] thought should have been kept secret?"

Precisely.

My good-faith two cents of advice to the Speaker: check the screencap. When MSNBC brands the flap "Air Pelosi," you've lost the argument. Cut your losses and move on.

Glad you enjoyed it, lol. I haven't heard about two storms next week, all I saw was winter precip forecast for Monday night and Tuesday. You're further east, maybe the second is one of those offshore low pressure systems that don't quite affect us this far inland.

Well the technical meaning, to be more precise, not the numbers.

I love aircraft, but am stone dumb as to any numbers and most facts about them.

Well, she's caught looking like a royal hypocrite and she knows it. Since she can't play the race card, the old gender card will do.

Does this story have any legs outside the conservative media? I'm not sure what the fuss is other than to portray Pelosi as an arrogant hypocrite. But we already knew this.

Don't forget the necessary crew/stewards that would be required to attend to her entourage...

No, Nancy, it's all about hypocrisy, your hypocrisy. You and your buddy Al Gore are telling us that we should drive electric cars and you want to ride back and forth in a huge plane. You were going to cut federal spending, but you want your own huge jet. You wanted a higher minimum wage, as long as it didn't effect your own constituents' pocket book. You said that we couldn't afford to make the tax cuts permanent.

Either cut the crap, drop global warming, add American Samoa to the minimum wage, and make the tax cuts permanent or forget the plane.

Oh Good Christ -- save us from these wretched socialist pigs, and especially Nazi Pelosi --- now she is playing the gender-card. God help us. What a loon this socialist witch is. Talk about elitism and power-mainia. The ultimate in "flying limosine" liberalism.

Thanks to voters who made this nightmare possible.

Pelosi Announces the Creation of Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon announcing plans to create a Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Later this afternoon, the House will pass legislation that ends taxpayer-funded subsidies for Big Oil and creates a Strategic Energy and Renewables Reserve. For America to be safe and strong, we must take further decisive action now to free our country of its dependence on foreign energy sources and to confront the rising tide of global warming.

“Today, I am proud to announce plans to create a Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming to raise the visibility of these urgent issues and gather critical information to protect America’s security. The Select Committee will not have legislative jurisdiction, but will help develop information that will help us give these issues the legislative priority they demand.

“I am asking the committees that have jurisdiction over energy, environment and technology policy to report legislation on these issues by June. We hope to have legislation on global warming and energy independence through the committees by July 4th, so that this year, Independence Day is also ‘Energy Independence Day.’

“The science of global warming and its impact is overwhelming and unequivocal. We already have many of the technology and techniques that we need to reduce global warming pollution, and American ingenuity will supply the rest. With this new Select Committee, we demonstrate the priority we are giving to confront this most serious challenge.

“Now is time to act; the future of our country, indeed our entire planet, is at stake.”

She really does have a childish "mine is bigger than yours" attitude.

All lesbos have it. It's colder too.

I don't see how the 'gender-card' can be played here since Pelosi is offered the same type of plane that Hastert used.

Pelosi has not been offered an inferior aircraft than what the former house speaker flew.
