He's Ready If You Are (Rudy Giuliani)
American Spectator ^ | Feb 8, 2007 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.,

Posted on 02/08/2007 11:30:41 AM PST by PhiKapMom

Rudy Giuliani will prevent a conservative crack-up.

Today, after very little effort, Giuliani is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. Dick Morris is predicting a Giuliani vs. Clinton race in 2008. Yet some conservatives are dubious of the man who cleaned up New York, returned it to a vigor unimaginable from the 1960s through the 1980s, and then led New York and the country heroically through 9/11. Well, one knows a politician by the company he keeps, and Giuliani has around him the financial people who created the libertarian-conservative Manhattan Institute. He relied heavily on the Institute's policies while governing New York. He will rely on libertarian-conservative policy makers in his race for the White House and once there.

Each to his own but Rudy doesn't pander to a specific group like certain candidates are doing.

"The crossovers in PA come largely from pro-life Dems. You won't get that from a pro-choice pubbie nominee."

Being from Michigan and dealing with a huge union vote, I can tell you that the Dem crossovers here on mainly on two issues...Guns and pro-life.

Without those they would vote for communist Rats every time.

Close to 40% of the mfg union voters will vote Republican on those issues.

The Teachers union vote is much less, about 15%-20%. Again, on those issues.

Pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise communist isn't going to crossover to vote for Rudy.

Tyrell is great. AmSpec is one of the best magazines around.

You raise good points about Rudy.

I will give him this - he doesn't appear to be changing his stance just to try to win the election. But I can't support someone in the primaries who is so socially liberal.

>>>>>The conservative credentials of R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. cannot be questioned by anyone who has been paying attention for the last twenty years.

Yes, Tyrrell`s past conservative credentials are solid. However, did you catch his essay from last year that trashed Newt Gingrich? Emmett sure didn't sound like a conservative to me. Sounded like someone out to destroy a very serious conservative Republican. The Bushies around FR enjoyed it tremendously. You might have even enjoyed it.

To this conservative it sounded like political trashtalk. Now we see ole Emmett running up the flag for RINO-Rudy, and you want conservatives on this forum to take him seriously. Sounds more like a pathetic joke.

Where in B'klyn?

My girlfriend was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Regina Pages parish. She went to Bishop Kearney and her brother went to Xaverian.

As far as Rudy and other conservatives, I'm on several gun lists, the Glock List being the biggest,a nd they uniformly detest him and would rather vote for a chimpanzee than him.

Now, does that translate to other, less politically involved gun owners? I don't know...it'll be interesting to see how this all shapes up.

See ya',

Ed

Wow!

That's an interesting viewpoint.

I do believe in conspiracy theories, but why do you believe that about Rudy?

Well, not got rid off, biut waste hauling is now free of them, as are the garment inustry, the cement industry, the construction industries and the Fulton Fish Market.

I've read articles in the Post, Daily News and Times saying that people are entering those industries without mob shakedowns, they called it "the mob tax" and estimated that the average bill is 10% cheaper because he got the mob out of those industries.

"baubau is on the list and has been for some while.

Thanks, BunnySlippers.

Now I know what a ping list is, I think.

I've seen a large number of people asking to be on the Rudy ping list, so I figure now it ain't an easy thing to keep such a list or ping all who are on the list. It may also be possible that you or areafiftyone didn't not add me on the Rudy ping list on my first or second reguest due to the huge request.

Thanks for putting me on the Rudy list.

As I've said before I'm supporting Rudy, but ultimately will support the Republica nominee, whomever he/she may be.

Same here! I am supporting Rudy in the primaries but if anyone else wins the nomination they will get my support 100%.

Flatbush borderline with the Keningston area. Where the D-Train, later the F-Train, took to the tunnel and became a subway. FDR HS in Bay Ridge.

After the thread posted by the forums founder yesterday, I doubt Rudy will get the votes of many gunowners around FR.

"Giuliani is a tool of George Soros and the Shadow Party..."

Funny you should say that - Actually George Soros gave to John McCain in 2000 but has consistently given to Democrats and never to Rudy.

The MSM is NOT "grooming" ( has that now replaced "pushing" ) him at all. Hit pieces from the left, on Rudy, aren't what I'd call "GROOMING" or even "PUSHING" him.

But I guess it's sticking in your craw, BADLY, that some CONSERVATIVE columnists and talking heads aren't trashing him, but writing/saying nice things about him. Learn how to live with that......somehow.

Newt is 100% damned dead wrong!

Lots of Conservatives, REAL, TRUE, HONEST TO GOODNESS CONSERVATIVES, know all about Newt and no, he isn't as Conservative as you claim, he apparently has lots of ideas, but never thinks about comnsequesnces, nor a plan "B".

He's saying that he wants to give BOTH SIDES, the benefit of his knowledge and ideas. NOT A GOOD THING!

Unless he is doing things RIGHT NOW, behind the scenes ( rounding up money, rounding up political backing, getting teams ready in all 50 states, as well as a sterringteam ), by the time he stops playing Cuomo/Hamlet, it'll be far too late to do anything at all, except look like a stumbling fool.

Giuliani treated his wives far better than Newt ever did.

And calling FR Rudy supporters nasty names, isn't going to win anyone over to your side.

What do you think this primary term will entail?

What I would really like to see happen is so unlikely that it isn't even worth mentioning.

I haven't done much looking into Hunter.
I don't think Newt is serious.
I'm highly suspicious of Rudy mainly because of the attitude of a large number of the folks that are supporting him here (whether they own up to supporting him or not).
I'd take a very serious look at Tancredo just for the opposite of the reasons I'm suspicious of Rudy.
I could really get behind Cheney if he'd change his mind about running.
Bottom line, it's way too early to speculate.
I think there will be one or two more hats tossed into the ring yet but I also always seem to be wrong about this sort of stuff and don't want to jinx anyone by picking them now.

Is that wishy-washy enough for you??? LOL!
