Murtha Threatens the Pentagon?
The Corner ^ | 2/8/07 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

The Republican Study Commitee isn't leaving on a jetplane; the latest:

After the Pentagon rejected pressure from Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other House Democrat leaders to provide her a military C-32 Jet, Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) responded angrily after the media reported the story.  So angrily, in fact, that the Defense Appropriations Chairman apparently believes that it is "in the interests of the United States" to threaten Department of Defense funding over the flap.

THE INITIAL THREAT
Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., the Pelosi ally who chairs the House military appropriations subcommittee, said he has spoken to Pentagon officials about the need to provide Pelosi with a bigger plane that can fly passengers coast to coast in comfort....  "I don't need to pressure them. I just tell them what they need to do." Murtha said.
(San Francisco Chronicle, 2/8/2007)

APPROPRIATIONS CHAIRMAN THREATENS TO CUT DEFENSE FUNDING AFTER AMERICA LEARNS OF PELOSI PLANE DEMAND

"Late Wednesday afternoon, one of Pelosi's closest allies in the House, Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., chairman of the key Appropriations Committee subcommittee on defense, told CNN that the Pentagon was making 'a mistake' by leaking information unfavorable to the speaker 'since she decides on the allocations for the Department of Defense.'"
(CNN, ABC News, 2/8/2007)
(San Francisco Chronicle, 2/8/2007)

Our nation is at war.

It is irresponsible, inappropriate and reckless for a member of Congress to threaten the Pentagon and men and women of our armed forces.

The Marines and their families can thank the voters of Pennsylvania.

They can only thank the 40% of the voters who voted for Murtha's opponent, 79,000 12th district Pennsylvanians who oppose Murtha.

I should have worded it different.

They should thank the people in PA District 12 who voted for Murtha.

I probably am just taking your statement too literally.

The Marines and their families should NOT thank those who voted for Murtha, they should loathe them, as I do.

Wouldn't bother me a bit if they cemented their relationship and then stepped off a bridge.

Strech is now scratching like a cat on concrete attempting to cover up this turd and Murtha is hiding under his desk.

Not anymore. Thanks to Anna Nicole Smith dying, the media has the all the excuse they need to look away from Pelosi and Murtha and let them do whatever it takes to get the Queen her chariot.

I live in PA and am embarrassed about nothing---the only nitwits that should be embarrassed are those of his district who put him back in office (they are too stupid to be embarrased about that or he would not be there for 2 more years)

I don't think so, it has hit the cable networks and the Internet.

If you examine this entire story....it revolves around the fact that Hasert got the "free-deal"...which meant a 6-pax small jet which could run from DC to Ohio in 3 hours and no stops.

Actually he had the C-20, which is 12-pax, not including cabin crew. But they would only let him have 10 pax. This information is in the first linked story. The range of the C-20B is 4,250 miles, plenty to fly nonstop, DC to San Francisco, about 2,500 miles. Or for Her Highness, they could use the C-37, a latter model of the same line of Gulfstream aircraft, with a range of 6,300 miles. Both are 12 passenger aircraft. We even have a few more of them than the C-20Bs

The one in the foreground, with "Vermont" on the tail appears to be a B-57 Canberra. Originally a Brit design, de-metrified and built by Martin, it has two seats. Let her have one of those. Pilot and her.

Range might be a little short though, unless one replaced the bomb pallet with extra fuel tankage. I guess that would work.

John Murtha,...chairman ...Appropriations Committee subcommittee on defense, told CNN that the Pentagon was making 'a mistake' by leaking information unfavorable to the speaker 'since she decides on the allocations for the Department of Defense.'"

And this, my friends, is how the (once great) Democratic Party does business...

Just like the Corleones!

What Mister Murtha said is no different from making an offer one can't refuse.

This royalist arrogance of power has only one name...

Corruption.

My first reaction to that map was "oh my God!". I'm going to e-mail it to everyone.

I'm keeping a copy of the 12th District in my car. Just for reference.
