Richard Miniter (reports) on Nancy Pelosi's preferred means ofland transportation. This morning Speaker Pelosei will be chauferred in her government-owned black Chevy Tahoe sport-utility vehicle to the Rayburn House Office Building - where she will be the lead witness on a global warming hearing held by Science and Technology Committee. Rich adds:
The Tahoe emits 11 tons of greenhouse gases per year, according to U.S. Department of Energy. The agency ranks it as one of the worst vehicles on the road, according to www.fueleconomy.gov, a non-partisan government web site.
Many models of the Chevy Tahoe are unavailable in Rep. Pelosis home state because the vehicle fails to meet Californias strict fuel-economy and environmental standards.
The 2005 Chevy Tahoe 1500 4WD gets 15 miles per gallon in city driving.
Rep. Pelosis vehicle is also exempt from federal gasoline taxes.
Rep. Pelosi voted to raise the federal gasoline tax five times in the past six years.
Rich also reports that in addition to Speaker Pelosi, House Majority leader Steny Hoyer, House Minority leader John Boehner, as well as the Democratic (Rep. James Clyburn) and Republican party (Rep. Roy Blunt) whips also enjoy free SUV service - but adds that none of them is burning tax-free gasoline to go to this morning's global warming hearing. This morning's New York Post editorial is the appropriate companion to Rich's report, addressing Speaker Pelosi's desired air transportation in ("Nancy Pelosi, carbon criminal.")
I Like the headline
LoL
That's pretty damn good considering how heavy this vehicle is.
I never knew Congressmen got Secret service protection, but the last few times I saw Hoyer he had a Secret Service agent with him. Not a bad perk.
That's pretty damn good considering how heavy this vehicle is.
It's also most likely inaccurate. EPA ratings and real world driving are two different things.
I wouldn't see it as a perk. I would detest it.
Me neither. Might be just since 9/11
She wants to prove to everyone, especially Hillary, that she is the most "powerful woman in the world."
It;s for the CHILDREN!!!
And, the Tahoe last forever!
I have a 99 Tahoe and it doesn't get any where near 15 mpg around town. On road trips it does. 5.7 fairly conservative driving.
Huh? Anyone see the idiocy of this?
She has no qualifications to be considered any kind of authority on the subject. Add to that, she is openly an advocate of propagating the lie.

Wow, a 31 foot, v10 RV gets slightly better mileage than that.
Holy moly!
The red queen doesn't even get that much.
Kyoto for thee but not for me.
Not in DC traffic...
