Rudy on gun control: "You've got to REGULATE consistent with the Second Amendment"
FOX News ^ | Feb 6, 2007 | Hanity and Colmes

Posted on 02/07/2007 2:40:44 PM PST by Jim Robinson

HANNITY: Let me move on. And the issue of guns has come up a lot. When people talk about Mayor Giuliani, New York City had some of the toughest gun laws in the entire country. Do you support the right of people to carry handguns?

GIULIANI: I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arms. When I was mayor of New York, I took over at a very, very difficult time. We were averaging about 2,000 murders a year, 10,000...

HANNITY: You inherited those laws, the gun laws in New York?

GIULIANI: Yes, and I used them. I used them to help bring down homicide. We reduced homicide, I think, by 65-70 percent. And some of it was by taking guns out of the streets of New York City.

So if you're talking about a city like New York, a densely populated area like New York, I think it's appropriate. You might have different laws other places, and maybe a lot of this gets resolved based on different states, different communities making decisions. After all, we do have a federal system of government in which you have the ability to accomplish that.

HANNITY: So you would support the state's rights to choose on specific gun laws?

GIULIANI: Yes, I mean, a place like New York that is densely populated, or maybe a place that is experiencing a serious crime problem, like a few cities are now, kind of coming back, thank goodness not New York, but some other cities, maybe you have one solution there and in another place, more rural, more suburban, other issues, you have a different set of rules.

HANNITY: But generally speaking, do you think it's acceptable if citizens have the right to carry a handgun?

GIULIANI: It's not only -- I mean, it's part of the Constitution. People have the right to bear arms. Then the restrictions of it have to be reasonable and sensible. You can't just remove that right. You've got to regulate, consistent with the Second Amendment.

HANNITY: How do you feel about the Brady bill and assault ban?

GIULIANI: I was in favor of that as part of the crime bill. I was in favor of it because I thought that it was necessary both to get the crime bill passed and also necessary with the 2,000 murders or so that we were looking at, 1,800, 1,900, to 2,000 murders, that I could use that in a tactical way to reduce crime. And I did.

Well, I'm a redneck redneck ( Huron ), but there is some Scott mixed in.

I'm sure that Guiliani will manufacture some sort of 'trumped up' and phoney hunting trip--just like Jon Caray did in Ohio--to show that he supports the Second Amendment.....lol

Frankly, I'd trust Kerry "you're stupid because you're in Irak" more than I'd trust Rudy "take your guns away and they'll be no crime" with my family's 2nd amendment rights. Trusting President Rudy with guns is like trusting President Bush with the borders.

SNORE.

If you don't understand constitutional law, please don't try to teach it, because you look ridiculous.

Unless you're one of the authentic Scottish rednecks,

I've got a horde of Scots-Irish on one side of my family.

My wife often asks me why I can be such a pain in the arse.

I reply that my ancestors were Scots who were hand-selected by British Kings to annoy Irishmen.

That gets the point across.

I often bring the actual Scotch, as opposed to sunburned neck, origin up, especially when a thread needs lightening up, which most Rudy threads do. This one is better than most. But redneck as in Huron, an interesting characterization. If a Republican politician said that, they'd get hung.

Not in any way is he the only one running. My comment was based on a still-hypothetical either/or scenario.

In context, that comment marks you as a deceiver.

Let's not forget that the 'gun grabbing', anti-gun attitude would NOT allow our airline pilots to be armed prior to 9/11.
Intended to inform, not belittle.
STATEMENT OF CAPTAIN STEPHEN LUCKEY, CHAIRMAN NATIONAL FLIGHT SECURITY COMMITTEE AIR LINE PILOTS ASSOCIATION, INTERNATIONAL BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE, SCIENCE, AND TRANSPORTATION U.S. SENATE ON AVIATION SECURITY JULY 25, 2002
The real tragedy in all of this is that the hijackings of September 11th were avoidable. More than 40 years ago, during the height of the Cuban hijacking crisis, we called for strengthening flight deck doors and arming pilots, among other measures. In 1961, the FAA amended federal aviation regulations, with Congressional support, to permit pilots to be armed with the consent of their airline but the agency removed that regulatory language in July 2001.

You've taken more *rap (for the illiterate, the * is a C) on some of these threads than you deserve.

I think we have a decent field, Rudy, Newt, McCain, Newt, Hunter, Newt, Romney, and I've heard Gingrich might run.

Rudy is about my last choice.

Having read many of the Rudy threads which focus, in text and with visuals, on crossdressing, gay marriage, his wives, his current wife who seems OK, neocons, his connections with criminals, his connections with the ever war loving county in the middle east, and on and on, I developed a bit of sympathy.

For what it's worth, if you throw out half the comments, the last few threads, several of which centered on the 2nd amendment have been pretty good. FR doesn't entirely look like a collection of morons.

I don't miss the pictures.

I'm still opposed to slandering Rudy, and he's still my last Republican choice.

So...have you read up about Duncan Hunter? Supposing you're a conservative too (just guessing since you're on this site), you should read up about him.. I think you will be suitably impressed.

Giuliani is a phoney, an egotist and liar.

ANYy Republican who votes for this big city eastern liberal deserves exactly what they will get - a swift kick in the butt when this egomaniac gets elected.

Like ALL RINOs, people like Giuliani try to appear as if they support the views of most Republicans - UNTIL THEY GET NOMINATED. They they swing left. After getting elected, they swing FURTHER left.

ACTIONS speak louder than words and his own words and ACTIONS convict him. Despite his Clintonian oratory, he is

PRO-GAY

PRO-ABORTION

ANTI-GUN

PRO-ILLEGAL

and ALL PHONEY.

Uh, he was enforcing the laws that he was dealt with? Did Rudy co-sign or sponsor any gun-grabbing legislation?

That line of reasoning is utterly nonsensical.

"I want to like a popular vote getter. I want a winner for a broad number of reasons in defeating the leftist agenda. It is serious limitations that he has as an eastern prosecutor and megaopolist mayor that seem the evident disqualifiers.

The mother's milk of his sense of order is not American, it is from the limited vista of the leftist haunts and kills his understanding of the nation at-large."

Great points. Rudy is definitely not a red stater. Being totally immersed in a liberal infested swamp for so long, he has no experience of governing or even living his life as a conservative and has no idea what is important to the majority of citizens in fly over country. His mind has been poisoned to traditional American conservative values.
