Rudy on gun control: "You've got to REGULATE consistent with the Second Amendment"
FOX News ^ | Feb 6, 2007 | Hanity and Colmes

Posted on 02/07/2007 2:40:44 PM PST by Jim Robinson

HANNITY: Let me move on. And the issue of guns has come up a lot. When people talk about Mayor Giuliani, New York City had some of the toughest gun laws in the entire country. Do you support the right of people to carry handguns?

GIULIANI: I understand the Second Amendment. I support it. People have the right to bear arms. When I was mayor of New York, I took over at a very, very difficult time. We were averaging about 2,000 murders a year, 10,000...

HANNITY: You inherited those laws, the gun laws in New York?

GIULIANI: Yes, and I used them. I used them to help bring down homicide. We reduced homicide, I think, by 65-70 percent. And some of it was by taking guns out of the streets of New York City.

So if you're talking about a city like New York, a densely populated area like New York, I think it's appropriate. You might have different laws other places, and maybe a lot of this gets resolved based on different states, different communities making decisions. After all, we do have a federal system of government in which you have the ability to accomplish that.

HANNITY: So you would support the state's rights to choose on specific gun laws?

GIULIANI: Yes, I mean, a place like New York that is densely populated, or maybe a place that is experiencing a serious crime problem, like a few cities are now, kind of coming back, thank goodness not New York, but some other cities, maybe you have one solution there and in another place, more rural, more suburban, other issues, you have a different set of rules.

HANNITY: But generally speaking, do you think it's acceptable if citizens have the right to carry a handgun?

GIULIANI: It's not only -- I mean, it's part of the Constitution. People have the right to bear arms. Then the restrictions of it have to be reasonable and sensible. You can't just remove that right. You've got to regulate, consistent with the Second Amendment.

HANNITY: How do you feel about the Brady bill and assault ban?

GIULIANI: I was in favor of that as part of the crime bill. I was in favor of it because I thought that it was necessary both to get the crime bill passed and also necessary with the 2,000 murders or so that we were looking at, 1,800, 1,900, to 2,000 murders, that I could use that in a tactical way to reduce crime. And I did.

So you think seven year olds, the mentally ill, the severely retarded, and convicted felons ought to be able legally own and carry a firearm?

Oh yeah, that's what this argument is about. (Eyes roll) You must be fun in a debate.

But Rudy and his gun grabbing friends want to take two of my rifles...

Nope they want to take ALL of your rifles, all of your shotguns, all of your handguns, and all of your ammunition.

I also wouldn't be able to buy the next bolt action rifle

You also wouldn't be able to buy any next firearm.

Since Rudy has actively promoted gun control laws, that is why he should not be the GOP nominee.

************

It's actually quite simple, isn't it?

Rudy isn't electable. They just think he is because he polls well in NYC and with the MSM. It's a ruse. One they may not even be aware they are falling for.

But, how do you 'demonstrate need' for a weapon?

Point out all the governments and tyrants who have dis-armed their citizens and then enslaved them.

Yes it is why we're discussing this now. But some people here are star stuck by that mealy mouthed RINO. I really hope they wake up.

From the Brady Bunch, correct. Rudy isn't quite that bad. Horrible, indeed. But he hasn't sold out completely.

Hillary has.

The time to fight against GOP idiocy is NOW. Before the Primaries. This is what they have told us on FR for the last 3 POTUS elections. Hunter, Tancredo, Gingrich, are all FAR superior candidates to Rudy McRomney no matter how much their respective fan clubs try to repaint their "heros".

Do you think Rudy's gonna take away all our guns, seriously?

Did you try getting one in Rudy's NYC?

What do you think he's going to do differently than the last three Republican President's have done?

Sign every ban bill the Dems put on his desk.

I really hope they wake up.

Sometimes, that takes a REALLY swift kick to the groin to get them to do so.

Sign every ban bill the Dems put on his desk.

This differs from what Pres. Bush has said how? Didn't he say he'd sign an AWB renewal if Congress put one on his desk?

No more RINO's...

Thanks for the great post Jim.

As I've said, on probably too many threads, I will dedicate my honor, time and money to defeating ANY anti-gun candidate. Especially this metrosexual, elitist snob New Yorker.

Rudy isn't quite that bad.

Well... I don't necessarily agree. He was one of the initial drivers in the city's lawsuits against the gun manufacturers. If you try to put the industry out of business, then I'd say you were for total prohibition.

And even if he isn't QUITE as bad as Hillary, then it's only a matter of how quickly he want to procede rather than any difference in the end result.

The time to fight against GOP idiocy is NOW. Before the Primaries.

I agree.

I'll play along: yes.

Do you believe a business has the right to prohit anyone carrying a firearm from entering their premises?

Yes. It is private property.

How about a church or government office?

Church is private property. See above. Government office is not private property. Answer: no.

....Rudy and his gun grabbing friends want to take two of my rifles, three of my handguns, and possibly one of my shotguns as well. I also wouldn't be able to buy the next bolt action rifle I was looking at as it's chambered for the uber-scary .50BMG.....Kennedy even tried to get my .30-30 banned as 99% or your typical rifle rounds can easily defeat Class IIa body armor........

Man, a lot of us wish you lived next door. A lot of people would sleep much easier having you as a neighbor.

Letting Rudeinsky anywhere near the Second would be a disaster.

***I note the level of support for Giuliani on FR and I am puzzled by it ... A large part of his support here seems to derive .. from a cult of personality following. Disturbing.****

Ding-ding-ding!! LiveFree, you a WINNER!

They're like brainwashed Moonie cultists. Those from NYC or from across the river in NJ I can 'almost' understand. But someone from Kansas, or NC, no way. With Rudy's stated positions he should be shunned, treated with disdain, just like any other Liberal Dem.

And 'disturbing' it is. When you get to thinking 'Only Rudy Can Save Us', you're getting in dangerous territory. The last time a politician was viewed as a 'Savior' and who had a 'cult like' following was in 1930's Germany.

We know how well that worked out.

Now imagine Rudy as President with a Demonrat Congress or evenly divided with a number of RINOS and we can look forward to more regulation. There are too many important issues Rudy is liberal on that ought to raise concern amongst GOP primary voters.
