CAIRO, Egypt - The U.S. military said Wednesday a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter went down about 20 miles northwest of Baghdad, while an Iraqi air force officer said it was downed by an anti-aircraft missile.
Al-Qaida-linked Sunni insurgents claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.
The claim was issued in an Internet statement signed by the Islamic State in Iraq, an umbrella group of several Sunni insurgent groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq. The authenticity of the statement -- posted on a Web forum where the group often issues statements -- could not be independently confirmed.

My gratitude to your brother, Smogger. I truly feel your concern so please keep me posted. Thanks.
God bless your nephew. May he do his job well and return to us safe and sound.
The people who are weakening this nation are those who are buying into the enemy propaganda and losing their nerve to fight the war by dwelling on the negative aspect of the war. I have done something to help the nation in times of war, though I can still do more. I have worked on translating many Saddam Hussein documents to reveal his regime strong connection to terrorism and his WMD programs. Many of these translations were posted here on FR.
May God provide comfort, peace and understanding to the families and love ones of the fallen.
Rest in peace troops and my thanks and appreciation for your service.

If there is anything you guys need, don't hesitate to ask.
In Afghanistan I believe the Soviet peak losses were about one aircraft/chopper per day. If the terrorists in Iraq are able to duplicate that feat then we lose. We simply can't sustain that kind of loss rate.
Yep, I think thats exactly whats happening. I wonder why it took so long for this to occur.
John Kerry was in Vietnam, too. Did you know that?
Very low blow... shame on you.
The terrorists are not be able to do it and we are going to win this war. Have faith and trust in the incredible power of our military and it great capability to adopt and defeat the enemy.
Popping in late.
This is my only comment to this moment:
1) Breaking news ought to deals with facts. A Helo went down. Fact. Enemies claim they shot it down. Fact. Helo losses have happened multiple times recently. Fact.
If I throw up my hands and say "Woe is me! They are kicking our butts and we need to cut and run!" that is being defeatist.
If I write an essay and claim that, it sure ought not be in breaking news.
If I see a news story about how the enemy is showing a video of one of the crashes, that is news.
If I see a news story about we lost people from Idaho, Louisiana, etc. because of the enemy, that is news.
If I use that fact as a way to say we are wrong for being there, (or even, why we are right for being there) I have editorialized, and it ought not be news.
But beyond that, being in a forum and having hard arguments about things like this is one of those ways we comfort our enemies, because they see our divisions and how we can be defeated.
IMHO, of course.
Which is one reason I seldom jump in these discussions. Hang in there, all of you who mean well!
