WASHINGTON, Jan. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Newt Gingrich has indicated that running for president would now be "last resort" but that hasn't stopped a new nationwide effort from forming to urge him to run for the presidency.
"Today, we are launching a major nationwide grassroots presidential draft effort, in the spirit of Reagan and Goldwater, to urge Newt Gingrich to run for the Republican Presidential nomination," said campaign founder David W. Kralik.
The "Draft Newt" effort will take advantage of the latest in online political trends by using its web site, http://www.DraftNewt.org as the primary vehicle for grassroots organization. Contributions to the campaign will be used in communications strategies to persuade Gingrich to seek and win the Republican nomination for president.
"Gingrich's entry into the Republican primary will set him aside as the conservative alternative to those currently running," Kralik said. "His bold ideas and energy will raise the standards for all presidential aspirants and help the Republican party work to regain America's trust.
"America offers great hope for those who believe rightly that the world is a very dangerous place. We have real challenges. We have a wonderful country that can solve these challenges. Gingrich has the experience and solutions that our country needs right now."
Draft Newt is the official grassroots movement dedicated to encouraging former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich to run for President. It is not affiliated or authorized by any candidate, party or party committee. It is being spearheaded by David W. Kralik, a former Gingrich aide and veteran of many successful online grassroots political campaigns.
Reporters and individuals looking to learn more about or get involved in the effort can visit http://www.DraftNewt.org

Ok lets debate history. Newt what historical importance do you place on not getting it on with the hired help while you are still married??
I think with the campaign season frontloaded at the very start, might make it more interesting to see how they all handle the ground game, instead of focusing primarily on one state, they'll have to criss-cross the country to do the meet and greets, breakfasts, fundraisers, town halls, etc.
Geeze the clintin news network goes out on a limb for Mcpain. Fooled me...
Many republicans will NOT vote for Romney, Giuliani, or McLaim.. EVER..
ALL republicans Would vote for Newt Gingrich.. even IF they detested him..
Especially if Hillary runs.. AND she will.. (jaws theme)
The resulting ((( Duuuugh ))) is earth shaking..
Regardless of his popularity within our political circles, to the average American, Newt is about as popular as a forty-something ex-high school football star that spends most of his time reliving past glories while wandering through life with his backside plastered into a Lazy-boy and a beer balanced next to the remote and Cheetos.
Drafting Newt will guarantee our loss. No matter who our candidate ends up being, he/she needs to be about the future, not the past.
"(FR poll, Gingrich #1)"
Actually, Duncan Hunter is #1 in the FreeRepublic MEMBERS poll.
I agree that she is unlikely to run, but why do you see the prediction as strange?
And they're both plain unlikeable.
LOL. So can I be the one who decides which ideas are good and which ones are lousy? ;-)
Not only is Newt Gingrich unelectable, he's unnominateable!
As Henry Hyde said, Newt is half genius and half nuts.
Newt is an intelligent and thoughtful person who I could easily give my support to. However, I don't think he will get the support he needs to be nominated simply because he doesn't have the looks (like Mitt), or the charisma (like Rudy?) to attract enough people. Not to mention, he has a lot of baggage, but so does Rudy and Hillary. Maybe this time around baggage isn't gonna be such a big deal since they all got it big time! LOL!
Absolutely! We're all entitled to make our own decisions.
Gingrich would NOT beat Hillary.
I would like to see a Gingrich/Bolton ticket!
Sorry, I didn't catch which poll it was...just walked into the room and saw the numbers on the TV screen.
I've never heard her say anything about gun control, and a President is powerless to order a gun confiscation. Maybe the President could do so under a declaration of martial law, but it could trigger armed resistance instead.
It's just not realistic.
See My Post #87 ... No looks ... no charisma! Yep that is all you need these days ... looks ... charisma and no brains!
Conservative estimates put the cost of a primary run at $100 million for each candidate, so I'll wager that the field will shrink rather fast.
