A NASA astronaut is charged with attacking her rival for another astronaut's attention early Monday at Orlando International Airport, the Orlando Sentinel has learned.
Lisa Marie Nowak drove from Texas to meet the 1 a.m. flight of a younger woman who had also been seeing the male astronaut Nowak pined for, according to Orlando police.
Nowak -- who was a mission specialist on a Discovery launch last summer -- was wearing a trench coat and wig and had a knife, BB pistol, rubber tubing and plastic bags, reports show. Once U.S. Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman arrived, Nowak followed her to the airport's Blue Lot for long-term parking, tried to get into Shipman's car and doused her with pepper spray, according to reports.

If an astronaut can go into politics, it proves there is no limit to how far they can fall.
A pity still.
EDUCATION: Graduated from C.W. Woodward High School, Rockville, Maryland, in 1981; received a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985; a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering and a degree of aeronautical and astronautical engineer from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, both in 1992. .

AWARDS: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal; Navy Achievement Medal; various other service awards. .
EXPERIENCE: Nowak received her commission from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1985, and reported to flight school after six months of temporary duty at Johnson Space Center. She earned her wings as a Naval Flight Officer in June 1987, followed by Electronic Warfare School at Corry Station, Florida, and initial A-7 training at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. She was assigned to Electronic Warfare Aggressor Squadron 34 at Point Mugu, California, where she flew EA-7L and ERA-3B aircraft, supporting the fleet in small and large-scale exercises with jamming and missile profiles. While assigned to the squadron, she qualified as Mission Commander and EW Lead. In 1992, Nowak completed two years of graduate studies at Monterey, and began working at the Systems Engineering Test Directorate at Patuxent River, Maryland. In 1993, she was selected for both Aerospace Engineering Duty and U.S. Naval Test Pilot School. After graduation in June 1994, she stayed at Patuxent River working as an aircraft systems project officer at the Air Combat Environment Test and Evaluation Facility and at Strike Aircraft Test Squadron, flying the F/A-18 and EA-6B. Nowak was then assigned to the Naval Air Systems Command, working on acquisition of new systems for naval aircraft, when she was selected for the astronaut program. .
Nowak has logged over 1,500 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft. .
NASA EXPERIENCE: After receiving her commission Nowak was assigned temporary duty and from June to November 1985 she provided engineering support for the JSCs Shuttle Training Aircraft Branch at Ellington, Texas. Selected by NASA in April 1996, Nowak reported to the Johnson Space Center in August 1996. Having completed two years of training and evaluation, she became qualified for flight assignment as a mission specialist. Initially assigned technical duties in the Astronaut Office Operations Planning Branch, she also served in the Astronaut Office Robotics Branch and in the CAPCOM Branch, working in Mission Control as prime communicator with on-orbit crews. Nowak flew as a mission specialist on STS-121 in 2006 and has logged almost 13 days in space. .
SPACE FLIGHT EXPERIENCE: STS-121 (July 4-17, 2006), was a return-to-flight test mission and assembly flight to the International Space Station. During the 13-day flight the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery tested new equipment and procedures that increase the safety of space shuttles, repaired a rail car on the International Space Station and produced never-before-seen, high-resolution images of the Shuttle during and after its July 4th launch. Nowak was responsible for operating the remote arm during scheduled EVAs. The crew also performed maintenance on the space station and delivered and transferred more than 28,000 pounds of supplies and equipment, and a new Expedition 13 crew member to the station. The mission was accomplished in 306 hours, 37 minutes and 54 sec
That explains the whole thing. :) LOL
The first?
The article didn't indicate that the younger woman was a 'naut. There was a pic of the object of their affections though. He is an astronaut and just looks like an average guy.
The "perp" naut is married and the mother of 3 children. Graduate of Annapolis.
Just cracked up I guess.
SUPER: "It is the year 3,000 in the distant Mirror Universe. One side of this Universe is ruled by the Men; the other side is ruled by the Women. An asteroid storm from the planet LUBRICAX has shattered the delicate solar mirror which separates both sides, and each has just discovered the other's existence. Conflict is inevitable as the first starship of THE MEN races toward the first starship of THE WOMEN, for a battle in deep space." ]

Captain Macho: How long until we accept the the enemy vessel, Lt. Testosterone?
Lt. Testosterone: Two minutes 'til battle phase, Captain Macho.
Captain Macho: Corporal Hardin, has that detectoscan given us any further data on what we're gonna be up against?
Corporal Hardin: Detectoscan and bioanaylsis indicate the occupants of the enemy ship are different but basically equal to us. However, Captain Macho, our ship is physically superior to theirs.
Kyle: Caption Macho, the enemy ship is within firing range.
Captain Macho: Alright, set rockets for cruising. Eveybody stay cool. Let them make the first move.

Corporal Fellopia: Captain Estrogena, the enemy starship is within electroscanning distance.
Captain Estrogena: What dos it look like, Lt. Aeriola?
Lt. Aeriola: Here it is, Captain. [ Spaceship of the Men is seen from outside the window ] Their ship is not as big as we had hoped.
Corporal Fellopia: And, from this manuevering, it appears that our opponents have little control over their craft.
Captain Estrogena: Alright, women, let's break down their defenses, and hit them at their weakest point. Corporal Fellopia, activate the Horn Ray.
[ Corporal Fellopia presses button on "boob" ray, firing shots at Spaceship of the Men ]

Lt. Testosterone: Mmm.. you know.. my flight suit feels real tight..
Kyle: Yeah, we've been on the ship about two years now..
Captain Macho: Listen, men, we're being bombarded by some kind of powerful new weapon, but we must gain control. Kyle, try counting backwards from 100, or try thinking about sports.
Corporal Hardin: I can't take this much longer, Captain. Can't we do something to stop them?
Captain Macho: Maybe if we give them a scare. Let's fire the Mouse Ray.
Kyle: Firing the Mouse Ray. Mmm..

Lt. Testoterone: Captain, Macho, we've lost control! We're going to collide!

Captain Estrogena: Damage report?
Corporal Fellopia: No serious damage, Captain, but our vessel will never be the same.
Lt. Aeriola: Maybe we should give them half-an-hour, and see if they'll attack again.
Captain Estrogena: I don't know about you, but I could certainly use a cigarette.
[ cut to interior, Spaceship of the Men ]
Captain Macho: That was some battle, men. I think we'd better get some sleep.
Kyle: Are you sure, Captain? Are you sure? I think we ought to do battle again right now!

[ SUPER: "THE END" ]
That's right, and the other stuff she had truckers threw at her as she drove by. LOL
I think it is safe to say that her career at NASA is over.
No pressure suits needed. Breathable air (except for New Jersey, Los Angeles and a few other places).
Maybe a BB-Gun would make a hole in a space-suit, but it would not be fatal inside the planetary atomosphere. :)
Guess that lucrative endorsment for "Expando-band, the
Sex aid of astronauts" is right down the tube.
Have you worked for NASA? I have.
I witnessed such gross incompetence, I was embarrassed to be associated with the group. I left, and continue to work R&D (Intel, AMD, Cray and now develop equipment for our military).
Where do you get your information? I'd suggest you get just a wee bit of information, before you flame. Are any of my examples wrong? Did we not loose 2 Shuttles due to incompetence? Did we not smash a Mars Lander into the planet surface, because of inept program managment?
Don't shoot the messenger, before you look at the message. It makes you look like a fool.
Yep...I'd call that a pretty sure thing.
Couldn't she have at least waited till Valentine's Day?
Where is the love?
I had a buddy from high school who graduated in 1985 from the Naval Academy. I wonder if he knew this freak?
What is wrong with Naval Academy graduates? They are some of the best citizens in this country. My friend is a high level manager in a high tech company and a committed Christian. He served honorably in the Marine Corps.

Oh, you romantic, you.
