Libby trial update [FBI interviewer's notes inaccurate and omit important parts of Libby testimony]
American Thinker ^ | Feb 5, 2007 | Clarice Feldman

Posted on 02/05/2007 12:06:04 PM PST by John Jorsett

The Libby trial continues today with FBI agent Bond acknowledging that her notes are inaccurate and that the summary of the second interview prepared by her supervisor Eckenrode is substantially at odds with her notes.

She also said that while Libby said he "couldn't recall" a key conversation, for example, Eckenrode reported that Libby "adamantly denied "it occurred.

Imagine how confusing it must have been to be confronted in the grand jury with these notes falsely describing the interviews and having no means to challenge them!

Significantly, Agent Bond confirms: Libby testified that on 9/30/03, Colin Powell told him that "everyone knows" about Wilson's wife, and that he (Wilson) was at the meeting where Wilson's wife suggested they send Wilson to Niger.

Click on the agent Bond link and read additional details of her testimony, including omission of important parts of the interview. What really strikes me is the FBI policy of using hand notes instead of recording devices. Seeing what a mess this has become, if I'm ever interviewed by the FBI I'm bringing my own tape recorder!

What kind of idiot prosecutor would bring this kind of evidence to a court of law.

Political prosecutors always look like idiots about the law because this trial is not about the law, its about PR.

Bad press for the Bush Admin is the only goal.

The no-taping policy is a longstanding FBI policy. It's been criticized but not changed. http://www.azcentral.com/specials/special21/articles/1206fbitaping.html

More importantly, what kind of idiot judge would allow it.

"What kind of idiot prosecutor would bring this kind of evidence to a court of law."

One with an agenda.

You actually beat me to the punch with your comment. I was going to comment that as each prosecution witness is discredited, I'm beginning to wonder how Fitzgerald ever made it through law school.

while Libby said he "couldn't recall" a key conversation, for example, Eckenrode reported that Libby "adamantly denied "it occurred

It looks like Fitzfong and some FBI agents should be the ones on trial.

"Imagine how confusing it must have been to be confronted in the grand jury with these notes falsely describing the interviews and having no means to challenge them!"

This is a major flaw with the Grand Jury system. You, the accused, are hammered with any number of accusations and don't have the usual courtesies (as guaranteed by that inconvenient shred of paper, the Constitution), such as an attorney and due process, to shield you from prosecutoral "inaccuracy" or overreaching. Of course, it's not a "trial"... it's just the end of life as you know it.

I am far from being a lawyer (Thank God) but everything I have been told says a Lawyer shouldnt ask any question he doesnt know the answer to.

This clown doesnt even know what his own prosecution witnesses will say. Didnt he interview them in any way previous to placing them on the stand?

God only knows how much money this turkey has been allowed to throw down the toilet. Certainly someone should ask and find out why? He is as totally incopmpetent as Starr was.
