Romney's go-to guy for conservatives

Romney's go-to guy for conservatives By Scott Helman, Globe Staff | February 5, 2007 On Nov. 30, as Mitt Romney pitched his conservative message to a major Republican gathering in Miami, the nitty-gritty politicking of his presidential campaign was going on privately, 1,250 miles north. The setting was a dinner at Princeton University for leading conservative intellectuals and opinion-makers. At a corner table, a small group challenged Romney surrogate Peter G. Flaherty on his boss's evolution from moderate to conservative. Why, they pressed, should conservatives believe it's genuine? "They just launched right into him," said Princeton professor Robert P. George, who was there. But Flaherty, a devout Roman Catholic with deeply held socially conservative views, gave a deeply personal response, according to those at the table. His response, according to George, was this: "Obviously I've got to believe he's for real, or I wouldn't be wasting my time."

“Former governor Mitt Romney, who once described himself as a supporter of strong gun laws, is distancing himself from that rhetoric now as he attempts to court the gun owners who make up a significant force in Republican primary politics. In his 1994 US Senate run, Romney backed two gun-control measures strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association and other gun-rights groups: the Brady Bill, which imposed a five-day waiting period on gun sales, and a ban on certain assault weapons …”

---"Romney is go-to guy for Conservatives..."---

Well, I would say he's just the guy whom Conservatives aren't projectile vomiting at, like Rudy Clinton and John MCCAIN!!!!!!!!

I'm still hoping for Newt, or for Hunter or someone to make some noise, but Romney is kind of my fall-back guy right now.

He has done and said some pretty ridiculous things, but it seems like he's all into the "repentant sinner" thing, trying to make-up for past Liberalism. Most importantly, he's putting his neck on the line by making some very Conservative statements and promises - on the record - to be used against him. The way I see it, he's either a convert who we can praise for growing, or an opportunist who recognizes the need for the grassroots' support - enough that he'll have to come through for us in order to get anything done or win election/reelection.

Rudy is out - I'd sooner vote Hillary,
McCain is my last acceptable choice,
Romney is my choice if no other viable option arises,
Newt is my first choice (though not yet running).

I have come to the conclusion that flashbunny is a secret Hillary supporter working overtime to try and discredit her most formidable potential candidate: Romney.

How else to explain the complete infatuation with him?

LOL You might be right!

He sure does hate positive Romney articles like this one, that show how Real & True leaders in the conservative movement are very impressed with him.

Romney's go-to guy for conservatives

If this is the honest belief of the writer, then his understanding of the word conservative is severely lacking. There is no "go to" guy for conservatives at this time.

Either neither of you read the whole article or you misread the title. Romney's go-to-guy for conservatives is Peter Flaherty, a well-known prolife advocate who is Romney's consultant.

From the article:

"When you see someone like Peter on Governor Romney's team, not just as show but actually doing real work, that does send a strong signal to conservatives," said Gary L. Bauer, president of the group American Values.
