Democratic presidential candidate Edwards' plan for universal health care includes raising taxes
The Associated Press Published: February 4, 2007
WASHINGTON: Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said Sunday his plan for universal health care would require higher taxes and cost up to $120 billion (a) year.
"We're asking everybody to share in the responsibility of making health care work in this country," the 2004 vice presidential nominee said.
"Yes, we'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a health care plan that costs anywhere from $90 (billion) to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," the former North Carolina senator said.
Edwards said his plan would aim to provide health care coverage for the 47 million people who currently lack it and reduce the cost of health care coverage for middle-class families, partly by making health care programs more efficient. . .
Edwards appeared on "Meet the Press" on NBC. . .

And the obligatory Welcome to FR.
LOL! I am SHOCKED!!!!!
how could this be?
(damn I need a drink...)
This is simple deport them all and don't raise taxes.
Pay more money to get rationed health care. But as in all communist schemes the ruling elites will have premier health care.
So this 'free' health care isn't free??? I am SO surprised! In fact, I have never been so shocked in my life! </sarc>
Yea, and they get the best that the tax payers can afford to pay for for them.
I bet there is a hidden clause in it that would exclude him, his family, friends, campaign contributors and demrats!
Go sit on those Taxes John. You are a nut case.
There will never be enough taxpayers to pay for all the medical care people would accept for "free". What we need is less government involvement in medical care, not more. If the Socialist Democrats have their way, we'll be waiting ten months for a hernia operation, and there will be fewer, less qualified doctors. Socialized medicine will drive away the best doctors and discourage new medical students. Pharma companies will reduce spending on R & D to near zero, because they won't be able to recover the cost of new drug development. More affluent Americans will travel to foreign countries for quality medical care, just as the socialist and third world now travels to the United States for quality medical care. Imagine calling a government number to request permission to receive treatment? HMO's will seem like paradise if the Socialist Democrats are allowed to force more government medicine on us. Will Ted Kennedy, John Edwards, John Kerry and the rest of the Rats be waiting in line for government care? No, they'll have special Congressional Care, but most Americans will be treated like Josef Stalin's cattle.
What a nitwit.
"...partly by making health care programs more efficient."
Adding yet another layer of government bureaucracy will somehow miraculously make health care progams more efficient? Baloney.
Nothing's ever free.
$50.00 worth of health care= $500 worth of administrative costs
$50.00 worth of health care with less than perfect results = $5,000,000.00 worth of malpractice suit money in lawyer's pockets
Lose- lose situation for those paying the higher taxes.
If I remember correctly, the last presidential candidate to run on raising taxes was Walter Mondale. That worked out great for him.
John Edwards having afull bladder wants to raise your taxes, likewise when he's thirty, hungry or horny. It's a primal need felt by liberals; eat, drink, sleep, sex and raise everybody's taxes.
That sounds reasonable. After all, we've signed a social contract [/barf bag]
