believe it just happened at the lastest "anti-war ralley" in D.C. - and there were plenty of witnesses - in fact the guy was on O'Reilly. The veteran had been wounded (lost a leg I believe) and somebody from the "anti" group spit at him.

The soldier to whom you are referring is Joshua Sparling. This was done by so-called "peace activists" who "support the troops" . The only 'myth' is that these people are anything but seditionist traitors who need to be either deported or eliminated.

According to undercover infiltrators at the rally .. the group was very anti-American.

In about '73 or '74, while I was in high school, I remember the school invited a Vietnam Veteran, who had also been a POW, to the school for some event.

He showed up, in his dress uniform (don't remember what branch he was in), and was confronted in the main hallway by a bunch of students who began taunting and shouting at him. I don't remember if any spitting occurred, but they made quite a commotion nonetheless.

I remember being flush with shame and anger at these idiots. I felt so bad for the guy. These kids, my classmates, didn't even really know all that much about Vietnam...they were just parroting what they'd seen on TV. To be cool, I guess...

The Vet handled himself pretty well, as I recall...

I just posted the same comment on another thread.

I traveled from my home base to Afghanistan via Denver and Baltimore wearing my DCUs.

On the way to Afghanistan a military family on vacation bought some Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches for a bunch of us who were deploying.

On the way home I was approached by the parents of two kids who wanted to get a picture taken with me.

I gave each kid a CJSOTF-A coin.

This debate is stupid, as only a leftwing media-driven circle-jerk can be. Has it ever occurred to any of these twits that the average vet was not about to go crying to the press, regardless of what happened to him? He only wanted to get the hell home and let it drop.
