I was a 60's teen, but he was still big this soon after his death.

It's hard to say how big he would have been, but I would have bet he would have been huge. Incredible talent. His niece used to work in burger joint that he got his start performing in (there was a stage attached) - met her one time, very nice girl, and they had a little tribute area to Buddy.
Unfortunately, a FReeper mentioned they tore down the place for a Wal-Mart (wouldn't surprise me knowing Lubbock).

I was barely 10 years old on this date 48 years ago, and I had no awareness whatsovever of this event. By the time I started listening to "Cousin Brucie" and "Big Dan Ingram" a few years later, Buddy Holly was never mentioned. The first news I ever had of his tragic death was AMERICAN PIE.

My glass is not half full.
Nor is it half empty.
It is broken and never had anything in it at all.

Yep. You never know if you're gonna get maple creme, pecan bits, dark caramel, or heavy sarcasm.
