President Bush honored the 2006 NHL Stanley Cup (hockey) Championship Carolina Hurricanes at the White House. [I lost the b key on my keyboard with the Great Water Mishap earlier this week so if I type a b that doesn't show up, and forget to copy and paste it in, please insert it mentally into the text. In my replies I might start typing a v in place of b.]
Secretary of State Rice hosted a meeting of "the Quartet" to discuss events in the Middle East.
Defense Secretary Gates and General Pace held a news conference at the Pentagon. Text here.
National Security Adviser Hadley conducted the press briefing today, discussing the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), text and video here. The NIE is "an effort to bring together all the elements of the intelligence community and come out with a consolidated set of judgments about the situation in Iraq." It is a new document, provided to the president to develop a new strategy or new approach to Iraq.
Laura Bush promoted heart health awareness by attending the Red Dress Heart Truth fashion show in New York.
Thank you for the wonderful thread...I know you have had a lot more important things on your mind...but I really appreciate all of the work you did.
Thank YOU Sleuthy.
It was a nice day to do the Dose (and that helped to lift my spirits) -- always is more fun when the First Couple is having fun ;-) -- I haven't had any news from my family yet today avout my cousin so am hoping this means everything is in a no-new-crisis mode.
thanks for the dose tonite! Just a flyby post on my way out the door to work!
I just rec'd an update, right after I posted to you, on Carrie. It didn't go through to everyone last night. Her ICP is more stable than it was but is still fluctuating. I just wrote back and asked if there is an update for today.
Thanks for the ping.
I still marvel at the whole concept of the Stanley Cup in North Cackalacky.
Why Bush Is a Wall Street Rock Star

They are tough judges actually, merciless judges.
They measure you by performance figures they can tell, not vague political speeches they can not.
They know the war has its problems. They know this economy does not.
And therein lies the reason President Bush was greeted like a rock star when he stunned everyone and descended on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
I was there I felt their excitement. And I heard their chants. I heard the "thank yous" and the "way to gos."
This man, who is such a divisive figure in America, is a legend in this building.
Maybe because in this building, this crowd measures a man differently: Not by the controversy he engenders, but the performance figures he puts up: like record corporate profits, steady job growth, stunning productivity.
No economy is perfect and neither are the money types who judge it. But they buy when they're confident. They do not when they are not.
And, for some 50-plus months of an uninterrupted bull market and just as long economic recovery, they've been buying.
Not reading the economic headlines that so bias a president who has done a good job. But the very real, hard, black-and-white economic numbers that prove it.

It's so not fair when you post the Dose while I'm at work. How am I ever gonna get my 23rd toaster? :P
Lol thanks for the Dose.
Anxiously awaiting like I am sure you are news from today Carrie seems to have captured so many freepers. It is times like this when you realise how much others do care. I know I was amazed by the kindness of freepers this and last Christmas over mum.
Are you back in the canteen?
Thank you Gretchen. Your "b" may dry out and work later. It must have been trying to give us this today without the letter.
I rec'd an update right after I posted that I hadn't rec'd one. Murphy again! "Carrie seems to have captured so many freepers," AMEN, and you know it's the hand of the Lord; how else could so many people be gripped by the needs of a young woman they've never met?
Your package was delivered to my workplace today thank you so much it is lovely I will take a photo of me wearing the necklace and post you as soon as I wear something that shows it off well.
I do apologize! I'll try to do better next time. ;-)
It's a challenge -- I put a capital and lower case b in my draft Dose Email to myself and copied and pasted it each time I needed them; also copied and pasted the < br > symbol. but sometimes I haven't got the "b" stored in my PC's copy and paste memory and don't want to go rooting around for it, so I just type v instead. This keyboard, even without the b, is much easier to use than the old, non-ergo one with the mouse that my desk doesn't give me room to navigate. I had to pick up the mouse and reposition it four times whenever I wanted to use it.
btw, Hi!
Glad you got it. Would love to see a photo of you wearing it. Next time I'll ask you for your workplace shipping address so you won't have to make a phone call.
Thanks for the pictures today.. Laura gets more beautiful by the day.
and I have to say I hate yahoo...and have a question... why does yahoo when you search for pictures of Laura Bush display on the top laura bush divorce... WTF ... I am getting sick of all those tabloids and now yahoo is getting along...
:0)
Great comment, Gretchen. So very true. She is so lovely!
Thanks for your work on the Dose today--even without a 'b'! Continued prayers for Carrie.
Yeah, I work in the cafeteria on the weekends. I told em I only have class on Tuesday and Thursday but they haven't given me any hours during the week yet.
Okay then I'll forgive you this time. ;)
