Romney Shoots and Scores!
January 31, 2007 (SUBMITTED AT 9:29am)
Mitt Romney needed this. And he got it. Jim Bopp, is the general counsel for the National Right to Life Committee and he's endorsing Mitt Romney. Read it here. This is a big deal folks. Let me give you an analogy. It's like if you were competing against a half dozen players to become the starting point guard on your college basketball team ( read: President of the United States) and Magic Johnson came out and said "I want this guy as my starting point guard." Well, people would take notice. And when you bring Jim Bopp in as your "Magic Johnson," you've just dunked in the face of your opponents.
This would be called a "political facial." Since day one, Romney has been pulling all the right levers. If they were going to make a sequel to the Tom Cruise movie, "All the Right Moves," Romney would be the lead. His press team is dynamic and he's out in front in terms of responding to criticism or world events. And now, another key endorsement from a key pro-life figure. Romney needed this because of his past pro-choice position back in 1994. But he' says that now he's "seen the light" and Bopp says he believes Romney is sincere on this issue.
Ok, so Bopp endorses Romney. You may ask, "how is that going to translate into more votes?" The answer is a little complex but here goes. Bopp works for a powerful organization. That powerful organization works in conjunction wiht other pro-family groups. It's called spreading the word. Many of these groups work so closely together that they tend to listen to one another. Bopp's word goes a long way. Already, two of my sources within these groups are saying this bodes well for Romney. A Bopp endorsement could mean that down the road other major national pro-family groups will come on board for Romney. It's a snowball effect. It translates into these groups mobilizing for Romney and putting the get out the vote operation into high gear. Thus, the votes to possibly, possiblly, put Romney over the top.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the dems came up with a pro RKBA candidate? I hate to say it, but a lot of folks might be tempted.

Likely this is a very important endorsement for Romney--but I just think it is too early to be talking about putting him "...over the top".
Everything is still very fluid, and should be, this far out.Exactly. The undecided voters are paying more attention to who wins American Idol.

If the RATS were to run Richardson at the top of their ticket the current top 3 Republicans would be in serious trouble.
Lets hope they are too stupid to do that.

"I will never vote for a Massachusetts politician. Ever." What about Ted Kennedy?
Even when I lived in Taxachusetts, I never voted for Teddy the Red Nosed Senator. Neither him nor "the Duke". I was outta there before Horse Face ran, so I never got to vote against him too in a state race.

Is the NRA going to endorse Romney? How about GOA? The NRA gives Romney a B rating. Jim DeMint (SC- R), with an A GOA rating, has endorsed Romney, so I don't think he is too concerned about that issue either.
Romney on guns:
Americans should have the right to own and possess firearms as guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. Im proud to be among the many decent, law-abiding men and women who safely use firearms. - Governor Mitt Romney, 01-12-2007
Also, in 2005, Romney designated May 7 as The Right to Bear Arms Day in Massachusetts to honor the right of decent, law-abiding citizens to own and use firearms in defense of their families, persons, and property and for all lawful purposes, including the common defense.

In case you didn't notice, I opened my comments that Romney's awareness of the need to reach out to SoCons is an advantage over Rudy and McVain. It certainly is. I only hope that the entrenched Hunter fans may join with the Romney fans to assure a more conservative victory in the primaries.
Here's another good thing about having Bopp on board:
It is also important on another level. James Bopp is one of the leading opponents of Campaign Finance Reform Laws, or put another way: McCain-Feingold.

If I were Hunter or the other candidates, I'd throw my support behind Rudy or Romney and hope to be picked for VP.
The other candidates are too focused on social issues and have no chance of winning in the general.

The other candidates are too focused on social issues and have no chance of winning in the general. Hunter's primary focus is military readiness, last I checked.

The democrats are chomping at the bit with hope that Rudy, McCain or Romney will be the MSM and RNC choice for POTUS as any of the three will lose.
I stand by what I mean, none of your three can win a national election against any democrat!

National Right to Life is the same group which opposed South Dakota's abortion ban. In this, they were on the same side as Planned Barrenhood.
I stopped giving to them long ago. In my opinion, they've been co-opted by those who make a living off the issue.

Hunter's primary focus is military readiness, last I checked. Economic issues will be a huge factor in the 2008 election. No matter who's President, they're going to have to deal with the WOT. That's a given.
Hunter voted in favor of Medicare D, CFR, Transportation bill, and Kennedy's Education bill. To me, he's another Nixon, without the sleaze of course.

I agree. I think nominating any of them would pretty much ensure a GOP loss. The conservative base would simply fold up their chairs and go home.

Yeah, and Romney signed onto out-right Socialized Medicine in Massachusetts.
Hunter voted for the same things Bush signed. He's not even in the same league as Rudy McRomney when it comes to being big government liberals.

I stand by what I mean, none of your three can win a national election against any democrat! Believe in your fairy tale then.
That large swath of knuckle-headed voters who owe no allegiance to any political party and vote for whomever they feel like it? You gotta FIGHT for those votes without coming across as an Dim socialist or Repub religious zealot. Brownback, Tancredo, and Hunter all are incumbent Congresscritters with zero executive experience. They might win the hearts of conservatives in the primaries but will get blown away in the general.

The sorriest people are the ones with no values, no left wing ideas like welfare can be passed nationally with out their help.

So if Rudy or Romney wins the primaries, that means conservatives voted for them then during the primaries. You're in favor of nullifying the will of primary voters to stay home in a snit in the general and let the Dim win. How nice of you.
To: Antoninus
Yeah, and Romney signed onto out-right Socialized Medicine in Massachusetts. You are either deliberately repeating that falsehood over and over or you are confusing it with Hillary's plan. Newt Gingrich supported Romney's plan as it mirrors his own. Check it out on Newt's website.
