Rudy never struck me as being wonkish!...
Rudy strikes me as a can-do kind of guy, a can-do republican.

It seems like FReepers are divided into two very different categories: 1. Those who want to defeat Hilliary by supporting the candidate that has the best chance of doing so and, 2. those who want to remain pure ideologues and support someone who has no chance in hell of winning.
I'll go with Giuliani and a win.

The FAV/UNFAV on Rudy might be a new record I don't know but it is up there, that has staying power because everything about Rudy had been out there for some time, I would personally be surprised if there is anything major we haven't already seen, but the anti Rudies will have no trouble rehashing old news, that's politics!
To me I don't think Newt wants to run, this cycle getting in next Sept I think would be too late to the game, maybe he sees some kind of multi self destructs coming down the road, I just think it is bad strategery.

I think it's a significant indicator of the sampling they're doing. In other words, this poll is meaningless.

I don't think Newt is planning on entering the fray. Like you I think Sept 07 is about nine months late at best in entering the race. It takes time to set up state and national organizations, get the fundraising structure in place, and do all the myriad little things necessary to be a contender.
Personally I think Newt is selling books and looking for speaking engagements. Nothing wrong with that as we all have to make a living. He may also be trying to get hooked up with one of the other campaigns in an advisor role.

I'll go wih Rudy because I think he will be a helluva president. Period.
That he can beat Hillary is a necessary bonus.

I hate to say it because I'm not a Giuliani supporter. The same with me, but in a contest b/t RG and "her thighness", RG will likely win IMHO.

That makes two of us!
I have yet to figure out the people that vote on principle and don't care if they win. If you don't win, you get nothing. Moral victories don't count in politics or in sports. As a big sports fan, I hate to lose but I hate to lose political races even more if that's possible.
Didn't take much for me to go to Rudy after the election because I want to grind Ms. Clinton into the ground with an avalance of votes so she and her hubby get a wake up call that they are through politically!

Maybe with Newt as VP that would appease the unappeasables. Besides, I think they would make a great governing team.
