Rudy Giuliani is holding on to the top spot among Republican Party sympathizers in the United States, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 29 per cent of respondents would support the former New York City mayor in a 2008 presidential primary.
Arizona senator John McCain is second with 19 per cent, followed by former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with 16 per cent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney with eight per cent. Support is lower for former Kansas senator Sam Brownback, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, and Nebraska senator Chuck Hagel.
On Jan. 29, Romney expressed his support for U.S. president George W. Bushs recent decision to increase the number of troops in Iraqwithout leaving his usually critic stancesaying, "Im glad were seeing a change in strategy. Im glad were adding to the mission of our military the protection of the safety of citizens in and around Baghdad. I dont know how you could rebuild a country and an economy if your capital city is literally all covered by what we call a red zone. You know youve failed if you have a red zone. The conduct of our policy in Iraq has been fraught with a number of mistakes."
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Democratic nominee John Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Me too. LOL
Well, at least YOU get it. LOL
Rudy never struck me as being wonkish!...
Rudy strikes me as a can-do kind of guy, a can-do republican.
I'll go with Giuliani and a win.
The FAV/UNFAV on Rudy might be a new record I don't know but it is up there, that has staying power because everything about Rudy had been out there for some time, I would personally be surprised if there is anything major we haven't already seen, but the anti Rudies will have no trouble rehashing old news, that's politics!
To me I don't think Newt wants to run, this cycle getting in next Sept I think would be too late to the game, maybe he sees some kind of multi self destructs coming down the road, I just think it is bad strategery.
I guess that would make him a negative '-'!
I think it's a significant indicator of the sampling they're doing. In other words, this poll is meaningless.

Chuck Hagel would cause me to vote for someone else.
I'll go wih Rudy because I think he will be a helluva president. Period.
That he can beat Hillary is a necessary bonus.
That's how he comes across to me as well -- leader to comes to mind when I have heard him speak!
The same with me, but in a contest b/t RG and "her thighness", RG will likely win IMHO.
That makes two of us!
I have yet to figure out the people that vote on principle and don't care if they win. If you don't win, you get nothing. Moral victories don't count in politics or in sports. As a big sports fan, I hate to lose but I hate to lose political races even more if that's possible.
Didn't take much for me to go to Rudy after the election because I want to grind Ms. Clinton into the ground with an avalance of votes so she and her hubby get a wake up call that they are through politically!
Newt I think is looking for VP!
"What do the 2012 polls say?"
They point to an easy reelection for Rudy :)
Politics are about GETTING ELECTED! Anyone who thinks otherwise is too dumb to vote.
Maybe with Newt as VP that would appease the unappeasables. Besides, I think they would make a great governing team.
Hilary lite is not a win for anyone but the left.
That's OK, we have yet to figure out you folks that have no principles!
My sentiments exactly!
