Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and we will try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate ,Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats
And Monthly Calendars for the House and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
About patient conditions at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington.
There was a big expose written last week by the WaPo...saying what horrible conditions our injured troops have to live in.
Now...all the Congress critters want hearings and commissions...to find out who to BLAME!!
I was just watching the opening statement at this hearing by Rep. Tierney (D)....and he was saying this isn't an inquistion but an investigation.,,
However, he then went on to talk about how the POTUS said that we would win the war fast...be fetted as liberators with flowers...and then mentioned the SURGE...
Tying all of that neatly together the the REASON? this happened.
yeah.. this is gonna be a "fair" hearing. /s
Ahh, ok.
Have to go to hospital in a bit to see a friend and then run some errands. I'm sure they will still be bloviating and lying when I return.
Okay...see you later.
I don't know why they are having this hearing...
Rep. Tom Davis (R) just gave his opening speech...which was about like Tierneys.
They don't need this hearing...because judging from their speeches, they already have made their mind up that this is the most horrible case of gross neglect and misconduct since Abu Ghraib.
The first panel is 3 troops...two have eye patches.
I don't want you all the think I am heartless...I feel for these people, I really do.....but, I know what is going on and what will go on.
I think I may not be able to watch....and I guess you guys aren't either....LOL
I'll have to get back to you on that.
they are going to go in for the kill.
I have been saying that for 2 weeks.....
and they are doing it on the backs of our wounded warriors.
I know...but, maybe this will help the ones that could be sent to a facility closer to their homes??
Would that help the troops...if they could be sent closer to their homes?
OFGS! These are the same buffoons who held hearings in the basement and closets, etc. Waxman of all people...uggg.
The guy waiting to get an eye.....he doesn't want to take the 30 days off work cuz he is a workaholic but this is the VA's fault??
The only time they really like them is when they can use them. As an aside, Henry Waxman is incredibly ugly.
I don't mind people testifying about problems, but I just hate whining.
The heavy lady reminds me of my sister...she loves being involved in medical "issues" and telling everyone how bumbling and uncaring the professionals are and how she really gives them what for. We don't talk much.
Funny you said that...that woman on the panel reminds me of SO many women that I ran into while working at hospitals and doctor's offices...
From what I have heard from Justanobody, some of the troops making the complaints are ones that don't do for themselves...like keeping their rooms clean, not leaving food all over and such.
Also...like you said, bureaucracy will NOT go away, no matter how many people they fire...and even if they impeach Pres. Bush and VP Cheney...that paperwork will STILL take longer than anyone likes.
Sgt. Shannon: "I'm a leader. Those kids...are going to be taken care of." No lack of self-esteem with this guy.
No lack of self esteem there. I hate not liking anyone who is military.
LOL...he has made me chuckle a few times...even though he wasn't trying to.
I gotta say...the medical staff must have wanted to hide when they saw him coming....LOL
