Well done. Your chart needs to be posted on every Rudy thread.

If liberals want to elect Rudy, let them do it with liberal money, liberal effort, and liberal votes.

Count me out.

By itself, a meaningless poll result.

OTOH. Your chart ROCKS! "Tomato & powderblue".

Rudy is no conservative. Just another NYCity liberal.

No thanks.

Very nice, but the one "true conservative" on the list of this Fox Poll, Newt Gingrich, has a 49% disapproval rating--and that will only get worse as the Democrats remind voters of why they don't like him. And I dispute the extent to which he's a true conservative in practice anyway, being as he caved to Clinton's big spending in the 90s so much so that we dispatched with him as Speaker if you'll remember. No, Gingrich is good at the conservative talk, not so good at the conservative walk.

Sorry, but Gingrich's personal and political baggage means we have no choice but to be pragmatic and support a candidate who can win, Rudy Guiliani. The positions you cite are positions he had to take to win as mayor of New York City. He'll move right on many of them to win in a country more conservative and politically diverse than New York City, not to worry. He'll certainly be more conservative than Kommisar Clinton.

Anyway, sorry Skippy. That's the reality in this election. The GOP's stock is WAY down. There aren't many GOP candidates who have a chance to keep the White House out of Hillary's hands in 2008--maybe 3 at most--and all those who can are not hardline conservatives and are names with recognition and ability to connect with voters. The dream candidates of the GOP base won't have name recognition, money or appeal such that they can win in a bad year for Republicans which 2008 is sure to be.

It's either be pragmatic and hope for better next time or enjoy 8 years of Hillary. As for me and my house, I chose to keep another Clinton out of the White House regardless of who I have to vote for.

Look at the last three. Right now that is all I care about. The rest of it is either at the state level or a sitting President regardless of party will get nothing done about it.

Put Bush's positions on it next to this grid then look at what has happened WITH A REPUBLICAN MAJORITY IN BOTH HOUSES!!!

Everyone on this site is aware of Rudy's views, so your tendentious little chart is a waste of you time, and everyone else's on FR. However, even out there on the Fruited Plain, among just Republicans, when told about Rudy's views on same sex civil unions and abortion rights, just 20% of Republicans say that makes him unacceptable, and another 25% say less acceptable. That means 55% of Republicans don't mind Rudy having those views, and 80% don't think those views are a deal killer. The relevant quote from the USA Today article is below. You might not like it, but if Rudy runs, he is the likely nominee, and if he is not the nominee, the Dem will probably win. That is my prediction and opinion. You save it for future reference. Cheers.

"When they were told about his stance on those issues, his star dimmed. One in five Republicans said his views would "rule him out as a candidate" they could support. That included one-third of those who attend church every week, an important base of the GOP that makes up a third of party loyalists.

"Another 25% of Republicans said his views made them less likely to support him, nearly double the proportion who said they made them more likely to support him."

None of this information tells me whether I could support him or not.

Has he nailed down a position on Supreme Court nominations that would be inconsistent with an appeal to pro-life Republicans in the primaries and which is centered on the promise to appoint only strict-constructionists to the bench? A pro-abortion candidate could feel very strongly that Roe was an abuse of power by the court.

Has he nailed down a position on gun legislation that would be inconsistent with an appeal to the gun-lobby in the primaries--an appeal centered on a promise to veto federal legislation that interferes with the states' right to pass concealed carry laws or that othewise interferes with the states existing rights to legislate on the ownership of weapons? A pro-gun-control candidate could feel very strongly that the constitution is violated when the federal government limits the powers of the states in this matter.

I don't know the answer to either question, but, until I find out the answers, I have no idea how well he will do in the Republican primaries, or whether a conservative Republican should support him.

Your chart is the typical dishonest stacking of the deck. You include every issue he isn't in full agreement with the GOP platform, while leaving out all but 3 of the far more numerous issues where he is in agreement. Such as vouchers, school choice, anti-affirmative action, smaller gov't, budget cuts, tax cuts, line item veto, gov't reform, anti-corruption, anti-featherbedding, anti-Davis-Bacon, anti-union tactics, privatization, social service reform, entitlement reform, etc.

Lying by ommission is a media tactic, you must be really scared and insecure in the strength of your argument to resort to such dishonesty.

It must be great having that table to post all over FR. You don't have to think another original thought through Nov. 2008.

I would love to see the debate between Giuliani and Hillary.

Moderator: Mrs. Clinton, do you still have bad feelings against Mr. Giuliani for prosecuting Marc Rich?

Moderator: Mr. Giuliani, do you resent Mr. Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich?

Amnesty for Illegal Aliens....(Giuliani) Supports---GOP Platform...Opposes

That is pretty hilarious that you state the "GOP Platform" opposes amnesty, when the party's leader (Bush) supports it.
