France Tells U.S. to Sign Climate Pacts or Face Tax
NY Times ^ | 2/1/07 | Katrin Bennhold

PARIS, Jan. 31 — President Jacques Chirac has demanded that the United States sign both the Kyoto climate protocol and a future agreement that will take effect when the Kyoto accord runs out in 2012.

He said that he welcomed last week’s State of the Union address in which President Bush described climate change as a “serious challenge” and acknowledged that a growing number of American politicians now favor emissions cuts.

But he warned that if the United States did not sign the agreements, a carbon tax across Europe on imports from nations that have not signed the Kyoto treaty could be imposed to try to force compliance. The European Union is the largest export market for American goods.

“A carbon tax is inevitable,” Mr. Chirac said. “If it is European, and I believe it will be European, then it will all the same have a certain influence because it means that all the countries that do not accept the minimum obligations will be obliged to pay.”

Hey France!
What is it you don't want from us anymore?
How about we just agree to NO TRADE with you?

They owe us a ton of money for rebuilding their asses after WW II.

We'll take it in the scrap metal and stone from the Arc De Triumphe and the Eiffel Tower.

I stopped buying my favorite French red wine back in 2003 when they screwed us on Iraq. Now I buy Australian. I am not going back.

France tells the US something? LOL. As a proud graduate - at the very top of my class in 1998 - of the John Wayne School of Spoken French, I wish to have Black Jack Shellack call me. I would speak with him. I can make frenchmen grind their teeth within 30 seconds of my beginning to speak. Tells the US, indeed.

You slimy scumbag! Only wine and queers come from France, since you don't look like a bottle of wine to me that narrows it down a bit doesn't it!

I thought the Patton line went more like "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."

You could start a season with them and then it would turn out they were just collaborating with the German terrorists.

BAck the 80's I witnessed two French sailors actually washing their hair in a toilet in Penn Station, NYC. You want to speak of a barf alert.

Having read all the available comments here on this, I can safely say we are all on the right track. Usually there is one lost soul who will try to soften the rhetoric a little, but when it comes to france....

Agreed. It's laughable when France is considered a "victor" of WWII.

Or you could even work them into this season. The French have no problem casting their lot with any scum as long as they hate Americans. I think we need some more "24" threads. I think Jack relieves our frustrations.

Tell Chirac to wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up. While you are at it tell him to take his carbon tax and shove it where the sun dont shine---crosswise

Improving? Hmm. Won't last long. They're thinking of making it legal to nap on the job. I posted the article.

The rest of my family was very reluctant to start watching the show so I was forced like Jack to do whatever was necessary to change their minds. They've watched the first 5 discs of season one and they're hooked. Get this...my mother thinks Tony is the traitor.

One bar of soap will last a Frenchie 6 months, and that's no joke. Radio stations were talking about it after 9/11. The French don't bathe often. Maybe their socialism policy forces the community to share the bar equally.

That was my take on it, too. If they don't like the American product, what are they going to do - buy a European equivalent? Of a computer, for instance?!
