So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?

It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.

Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.

I wonder if Ash just is around. I see several posters with Ash in the name and wonder. Toiletman was the one that got my ire. The day Jim and many Freepers were in D.C. this Toiletman just about took over the website with hundreds of obscene posts.

I lurked at FR during some of the early Clinton scandals and joined during the impeachment hearings.

I stumbled onto FR in June of '99. I was just getting interested in the homeschool movement. (Heck, at that time I still didn't believe it was legal.) That led me to politics in general.

A few years later I suddenly started getting flamed as a troll and discovered that my "member since" date had been changed. The earliest post JR could find by me went back to December of '99 so that's what he reset it to. That was about the same time as the lawsuit settlement.

After 7 years, I still feel cheated out of those 6 months! :-)
