So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.

Actually there are some of us who met Jim Robinson over on the Whitewater BB on Prodigy in the mid 90's. Fascinating info was posted there on a daily basis and we all became hooked on digging up Clinton dirt....what fun we had!! When Jim announced he was leaving to start his own site little did we know it would become such a huge success. I was a lurker for many years before I joined.......
Any other "oldies" from Prodigy Whitewater BB still hanging around here?

Ah, the earliest days.
I remember well when Freepers came out strongly against the usurpation of power by Caeser; after he was assassinated by Brutus, many voices were raised blaming Freepers as well as an orator named Rushus Limbus for creating an "atmosphere of hatred."
Later, members would post using a quill and inkwell. Ye FreeRepublic was most busy in the days of George III, I can tell thee assuredly!

I came in July of 1998; I still remember sitting at my computer when the Drudge email (remember that???) came in the middle of the night with all that Monica stuff in it; and there I sat with nobody to talk to about it.
I wish I had known you all were open for business then!
So hard to say anymore for many of us. I just know that it's such a stimulating community nowadays. I love everything about the place. Unbeatable by any standard, and the mods are unparalleled overseers of the administration of the show, with impeccable oversight of so many contributers.

In the BC days Freepers were hiring banner-toating airplanes to deliver protest messages over major cities and stadiums during sporting events.
I remember one day when Gonzo got a Secret Service visit due to some questionable remarks made here, and I was racing around town trying to get an anti-Clinton protest sign made to carry outside his house during the interview (never did get there in time, though - that would have been the ultimate! :( )
Wait and see if a Democrat gets into the White House in the next cycle - if so you'll see it all over again.
Until then conservatives will largely remain as complacent as grazing cattle - happy with having someone in the White House who calls himself a conservative.
