So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.
Wonder who was the first poster?
Before Free Republic, many of us were on a Prodigy board about Clinton. Jim Robinson was one and when the Internet became more accessible, Jim started Free Republic. He was very innovative and brought together a national community.
Boy, the site was pretty crude in 96/97
I wish I had known about it back then.
It sounds like a crazy party.
I am fortunate to know a few teeners here.
Two characters from the early years of FR whom I always enjoyed: Dukeman (who found many really interesting connections and narratives in the Congressional Impeachment Report and the Starr Report); and the guy who seemed to have an inside track on info in the WH during the Clinton years and who gave cryptic messages in haiku; I think this latter guy had the theory that Lewinsky was WJC's drug mule.
Don Morgan, Navigator...........
Wonder no more! :0)

FR was awash with conspiracy nuts for quite a while back then. Some real good, Art Bell popcorn stuff.
Been a while since I've seen one of THOSE!
Thanks for a quick-step down Memory Lane!
Now where's A+Bert? Or Mojo? Or CaL? Or BadJoe? MarathonMan? cornelis? Mike Gallutia? dixie sass? chesty-puller? bigun? JENX?
Ah, the FR alumni threads ...
I had not idea it went that far back pre internet as a bbs....
Fascinating.
I don't remember how I first found FR but it was something similar to yours. I do remember reading some of the posts and thinking "hey these people think like me!" I lurked for a very long time before I ever subscribed. And I do know the urge to have my say on a gun control article sealed my last day as a lurker. :-)
Coyote was one of my favorites with his Ace articles.
how do you find out your member number?
I feel really stupid for asking.
Quidam?
That would be quidam.
Back in the day, I used to go to Drudge for news.
Now I only come here.
I do still visit Drudge on the FR Radio link on sunday nights, but I never go there as a mater of course to find breaking news anymore, I only go there for a humorous recap.
FR is days ahead of the MSM
Love your profile page. Good work!!
