Origins of Free Republic
Self

So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.

DITHF! Wow! There's a blast from the Pleistocene! And everybody's favorite squeeze toy ...
Who was the guy who left FR for good at least once a week for a month, and wrote a 10-page opus every time he did? Don Morgan? Does that sound right?

Do you remember the FR Air Force flying a banner plane over the Superbowl? The pic said ~ "Stop lying Bill Clinton." Does anyone have that pic?
A FReeper from Florida posted it.

I found my way here after reading about Asa Hutchinson's website in a magazine. His forum attracted quite a crew before it was shut down. Also, there was a liberal website (who's name had something to do with vegetables???) that performed the role of DU today.
As an aside, there was a guy named Don Hamrick on Asa's site who was very prolific. I always enjoyed his posts, if for nothing more than entertainment. Because his name popped into my head the other day, I typed him into google, found his email address(!) and dropped him a line. He's still out there (should that have quotes?) doing his thing...
I love this country...

I first found FR on that fateful day in early 98, when Drudge posted the headlines about Clinton and an affair. While scrolling through the column headings on Drudge, I saw the one entitled "Whitewater," and clicked, and was hooked.
That sounds like me. I found FR in exactly the same way.
At one time, I went back to read the very first posts by Jim Rob. Those discussions were truely discussions. Not at all what it is like now. Only a few people were involved. (Mike Galutia comes to mind) and a few other familiar names.
