Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the favourite Republican United States presidential contender for voters in the Garden State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 48 per cent of respondents in New Jersey would vote for Giuliani in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In other match-ups, Rodham Clinton holds a one-point edge over Arizona senator John McCain, and a 24-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. McCain leads former North Carolina senator John Edwards by six points, and Illinois senator Barack Obama by three points.
In 2004, Democratic nominee John Kerry carried New Jersey’s 15 electoral votes, with 53 per cent of the vote. No Republican has won the Garden State since George H. Bush in 1988.
Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

He is a leader! I hope that Rudy picks a VP like Gov Keating who used to get in trouble in OK for telling it like it is including going after the teacher's union. Gov Keating will stand up to anyone and is also socially conservative so he would be a good fit. Our teacher's union in OK would go nuts if he were on the ticket. I would love to see it just so they would go over the edge! That would be a pass the popcorn moment!
and I am still not convinced that the social issues would implode under Rudy. until we hear what he has to say about judges, his pro-choice position as mayor of a city with a 9:1 Democratic registration doesn't tell us anything. gay civil union is going to be an issue left to the states - that's the status quo today.
Rudy is perfect for 'turning NJ'. I am quite interested in how Rudy does RED STATE wise. So far he seems to get quality receptions where ever he goes but that is not the same as a primary election, so we wait!
I think you are right but I have the perfect solution that would drive the liberals absolutely nuts especially the teacher's unions. Pick the former Governor of Oklahoma Frank Keating for VP. He is is tough as nails, shares the terrorism on OK with NYC, went after the teacher's union and they hate him, has a tendency to insert foot in mouth which makes people like me love him. Gov Keating doesn't back down.
Gov Keating just came out with the fact that immediately after OKC Bombing he asked the FBI to investigate further all the reports of additional people being involved but nothing ever happened. He has the documentation to back it up. Something caused him to go public with that which might be Ms. Clinton running and getting his hands on the documents -- that is pure speculation on my part.
I suggest the code word is "leadership."
A big part of leadership is communication. God bless "W" but he isn't a great communicator.
Rudy is a great communicator. Rudy must awaken the electorate and elicit their involvement in this war. The world must join this war. It cannot unless it is called upon to do so.

THere are a lot of commuters from northern and central NJ that work in NYC. And a lot of former New Yorkers that moved to Jersey because they couldn't afford New York anymore. (or they traded in their apartments for a HOUSE)

There are far more things to think about, than just the ones you listed and that's what we all need to do, vis-a-vis the GOP candidates.
Romney seems like a nice guy, but he seems a bit weak and though I don't, some demonize Mormonism.
McCain is unstable, old, and his cancer keeps reoccurring.
