Rudy is highly thought of in NJ.THere are a lot of commuters from northern and central NJ that work in NYC. And a lot of former New Yorkers that moved to Jersey because they couldn't afford New York anymore. (or they traded in their apartments for a HOUSE)

You are right, a lot of NJ is pretty much part of NY demographic wise. If you know the metropolitan area its easy to see why. Whats interesting is how many former New Yorkers live in red state city's and towns all across the country and they like this guy!
And you can poo poo it but the Italian surname thing is going to be significant, people are always proud of 'one of their own', you might not like that some people vote like that instead of issues but thats the way it is in the real world.
