Political analyst and former Democrat insider Keith Thompson says even though Duncan Hunter is considered a long-shot for the White House, the California congressman could move into the top tier of GOP hopefuls as the 2008 presidential campaign progresses.
Hunter officially entered the 2008 presidential "sweepstakes" last week, Thompson notes. He says the candidate, as the former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has a strong conservative voting record working in his favor; and he is particularly known for his support of the military and his opposition to illegal immigration.
For these reasons, Thompson feels the California representative is at the top of the second tier of Republican hopefuls right now and is capable of moving up. Hunter has "a fairly decent financial base right now [and] some key supporters who are helping him get his campaign to the next level," the political analyst points out; "so I think he could come right into that first tier very quickly and be a significant candidate for the nomination."
Hunter's biggest problem is name recognition, Thompson acknowledges. He says that is one advantage early GOP favorites John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have over the California lawmaker.
But even though Hunter does not come in with the years of exposure that those virtually "mythological figures" have, Thompson observes, he says "the name recognition factor could change," and Hunter could become a force to be reckoned with in the coming 2008 presidential campaign.
John Kerry did. Except for the Frickin of course. and since my comment was in response to your comment about Kerry it didnt take a rocket scientist to follow along.
You just don't get it, do you Dave?
But how many thousand of earmarks did he allow into the defense appropriation bill for others. He does control that as Chairman of the Defense commitee right?
LMAO!!! True enough Antoninus!
Nothing like getting a Duncan Hunter-hater to keep the thread pumped up!
Hey Dave?
You can leave now. LOL
If you dont know the differnce between trashing a vet and suggesting that being a vet is not sufficient reason to vote for them for president, than you are insane. If Hillary was a vet, would you vote for her. I mean she said she wanted to join the marines. Or just trying to cause me to stroke out at my keyboard.
You're the one making the suggestion, back it up. Like I said, Hunter is the only one who published his earmarks. Perhaps you can figure out a way to see how many other defense-related earmarks there were from other pubbies, how many were actual pork, and whether Hunter could do anything to prevent such.
Until then, you're just bloviating. Again.
I think you just crossed a line there, bucko.
Given those numbers and Republican nominating tradition, Hunter could be the likely nominee (because Republicans usually nominate the person who is the favorite one year prior to the Hawkeye Cauccci)
Your utter lack of respect for not only Duncan Hunter, but for ALL combat vets is plain for all to see.
Does this mean that I did wrong by voting for not supporting Kerry in 2004. After all, Kerry was a combat veteran. You can play with the words all you like but all I said is if you are going to use veteran as the reason to vote for your candidate he ought to have done more than operated a mess hall or kept the trucks running. Now I'm disparaging the people that did those jobs, but they are not a reason for someone being elected to the top job in the free world. But if you are going to make veteran your reason for why we should support Duncan Who, then you ought to provide a narrative of his experience and how it ties into his current decision making. You say he won a bronze star or something similar, why not explain what the heck he did and make a story out of it...rather than just say vet and make believe to yourself that that is sufficient reason to vote for Hunter. Heck, McCain is a vet and you said you wouldnt support him. Arent you being a hypocrite?
I did a quick Google search and couldn't find anything that mentioned that Duncan Hunter has any kind of expunged record. You'd better be able to provide backup for this claim.
Except that he was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. I'd need to understand how this "bank" worked to get a better handle on what happened, but calling him a crook when he was cleared is yet another slur.
I don't have time to get into them at this point. But for one his mocking of Michael J. Fox was VERY damaging to Talent's campaign. His whipping up the anti-Illegal frenzy was also very destructive to the GOP last Nov. His nonsense about Terri Schiavo only exerbated that idiocy.
"Yeah, they elected Clinton twice and the popular vote went to Algore once." Bush was able to draw off enough to prevent that from being repeated, too damaging in 2000 and to obtain a clear though small victory in 04.
When at least 1/3 of the electorate is moderate conservatives will never win by pissing on their heads and insulting them.
He thinks Michael Schiavo and Judge Greer are both swell guys. I kid you not. That ought to tell you plenty. [There is plenty to be told in that remark but it is only that you are a LIAR which most alread know. My only concern about MS is that he was unfairly and falsely claimed to be a "murderer" here by the lunatics. Greer merely did his job and was also called a "murderer" by the Schlinder supporters. Other than that I said nothing about him.]
Well that old saying 'money talks, and bullsh*t walks' sure applies in this case! Looks like our pal from Chicago fills the bill. [No idea what this is supposed to mean. Not that I really care much though.]
Thanks for the contribution and compliment.
He might have a shot in Indiana too.
