Political analyst says [Duncan] Hunter can move into GOP top tier
Hunter for President website ^ | 1/31/07 | OneNewsNow.com

Political analyst and former Democrat insider Keith Thompson says even though Duncan Hunter is considered a long-shot for the White House, the California congressman could move into the top tier of GOP hopefuls as the 2008 presidential campaign progresses.

Hunter officially entered the 2008 presidential "sweepstakes" last week, Thompson notes. He says the candidate, as the former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has a strong conservative voting record working in his favor; and he is particularly known for his support of the military and his opposition to illegal immigration.

For these reasons, Thompson feels the California representative is at the top of the second tier of Republican hopefuls right now and is capable of moving up. Hunter has "a fairly decent financial base right now [and] some key supporters who are helping him get his campaign to the next level," the political analyst points out; "so I think he could come right into that first tier very quickly and be a significant candidate for the nomination."

Hunter's biggest problem is name recognition, Thompson acknowledges. He says that is one advantage early GOP favorites John McCain and Rudy Giuliani have over the California lawmaker.

But even though Hunter does not come in with the years of exposure that those virtually "mythological figures" have, Thompson observes, he says "the name recognition factor could change," and Hunter could become a force to be reckoned with in the coming 2008 presidential campaign.

Almost EVERY pro-Rudy poster has stated that should, by some miracle, Hunter get the nomination he would get their vote. In fact, I have seen NO such poster say he would not vote for Hunter. Unfortunately I have seen only a few Hunter fans who say they would vote for whomever wins the nomination.

You've managed to stumble your way into the crux of the problem: The "principles over politics" crowd is the base of the Republican Party. If "core values" conservatives won't vote for Rudy, but Rudy supporters would vote for a guy like Hunter, what does that tell you about which candidate has a better chance of uniting the party???

Think, people. Think! Lightbulbs should be going off in your head right about now!

Call it the Heisenberg Principle of politics.

Does that mean there is a Schroedinger's box with a Republican candidate in it, and he's both electible and unelectible until the election is over?

Well, if that's how little attention you've been paying, I can't help it. Of course, I'm talking about esoteric sources like Reuters, AP, ABC News, US News & World Report, CNN...

They're all gonna spend our money like drunken sailors on shore leave. I'd rather have Hunter spending it and protecting this country than mcpain spending it and letting this country be invaded and turned into a third world country. You have a problem with that?

Are you here just to keep dividing FReepers with infighting and weakening a conservative, possible presidential candidate?

Hunter's the best, you'd better wake up to that fact or take him with a spoon full of sugar if you're that opposed to him.

I have to get back to classes. Have a good one.

Like I thought, you all are realizing how irrelevant you are.....

And I bet you have no clue how many people are GLAD you don't speak for them.

It's kind of funny how many statements Howlin makes to other people that are so true of herself too.

Why would any left-of-center voters, especially women, vote for any of those three

I keep hearing women say that Romney is a hunk. That got Clinton elected and reelected despite his easily observed flaws.

Funny how you're completely misconstruing that statement.

I didn't call anybody a Nazi; I pointed out that Spiff uses BROWNSHIRT tactics to slash anybody who disagrees with him.

I'm not suprised you can't see the difference.

Never mind whether Republican-base conservatives would vote for them. The winning candidate will need to be able to appeal to voters from both sides of the middle. Why would any left-of-center voters, especially women, vote for any of those three, given that Hillary paints herself as moderate, but the leftists know better and will turn out for her in spite of that?

You dont really believe a base turnout election is going to do it for us do you. Remember how well that worked this past November. What part of blowout dont you understand?

Is this some of that "cold political analysis" I've been hearing about?

It's kind of funny how many statements Howlin makes to other people that are so true of herself too.

More people here agree with me than agree with you, if my Freepmail is any judge of what is going on here; people are sick and tired of the likes of you trashing them while they're trying to have a discussion about future candidates.

Mostly people want to know why it is you're trashing candidates as if their lives depend on it.

I can tell you all one thing though: the more you post, the more you drive voters away from YOUR candidates.

So keep it up; your nastiness will reap its own rewards.

If they're anything like you and your pals on these threads, I'm going to hit my knees tonight and thank God I don't see the world the way you do.

I don't even know anybody in the real world like you bashers. I pity those in your real lives.

Nice try. It is a Nazi reference and reasonably intelligent people can easily understand what "brown shirted views" implies.

However, I would expect you and your syncophants to deny it.

Only if you're gullible enough to believe whatever the mainstream media tells you.

Dont get me started. I'm still furious at those that posted over and over until election eve that we were NOT going to lose seats. In fact we were going to increase our seats in the House and SEnate. All based on secret internal polling of course. MSM cant be any more wrong than the Republican goon squad who believed that saying a thing would make it so. I dont think we ever got an apology from those posters.

I wasn't offended. If such things offended me I would never post here being subject to all manner of accusations of being a Liberal, Leftist, Statist, Communist, and committing mopery with intent to gawk. One jerk even insulted my mother.

I have also never called "abuse".
