I have questioned jury decisions such as in the OJ, Durst, and Jayson Williams' cases. Why have Border Guards if they aren't allowed to stop terrorists, drug dealers, and other scum from entering this country?

I understand that. I thought maybe he had some info to disperse but I realize he really can't talk of it. This case if wrought with inuendo, misinformation, he said/she said, etc. But the fact remains Ramos/Compean were tried before a jury of citizens from the area they lived/worked in, the evidence was presented and cross examined, the jury deliberated and found them guilty beyond a reasonable doubt on 11 of the 12 charges filed against them. Thus Ramos/Compean now stand as convicted felons. The appellate process will either reverse the trial court or affirm the convictions. We'll see.

I didn't hear it, either, but under federal law, there is a mandatory 10-year minimum sentence for any crime committed with a firearm.

It's a federal law, passed by Congress and signed by the President. Judges have no discretion.

Under the sentencing guideline in statute 18 USC Sec. 924 (c) enacted by Congress the minimum penalty imposed is 10 years on top of any other time given.

Here are the facts of this case, in this border patrol union statement here. I hope they keep the heat on, Sutton thinks he's gotten away with something and can now advance his political career. he's doing the biggest spin control campaign ever seen by a US attorney. He is trying to save his own political skin and needs to be called on it, again and again. I'll never forget these agents or sutton's atrocious miscarriage of justice. He needs to pay politically for this. And I'd like to see him out of a job, too.

Sutton said that the drug dealer had to be let off because he couldn't be identified, yet he says that he was close enough that the agents tried to hit him with the butt of a shotgun. Sutton's story doesn't make sense!

There seems to be more and more details of Sutton's handling of this case coming out that just doesn't pass the smell or honesty test, IMHO. Sounds like he has been at the job too long and he isn't used to anyone questioning his methods in obtaining convictions no matter what the evidence may or may not show.

Except that the agent thought the guy did have a gun and there is no proof that the drug dealer did not have a weapon.

He doesn't sound like Nifong to me. It sounds like his office built a solid case.

Based on what I've read and heard to date on this case you seem to have your blinders on and thus have your mind already made up before insinuating yourself in this matter. No chance that you could be wrong here? Or are you Sutton's PR point man here?!

Personally I was also interested in reading where some of the jurors have stated for the record since the trial that they felt that they were misled on the evidence they were presented with by Sutton. That should be a a major concern for any law abiding citizen since the jurors also said to the effect that that could well have made a difference in the conclusion they ultimately reached. Sounds like good old fashioned wrongdoing in my book! Aka, corruption!

And then Sutton would have gone for the death penalty for Compean and Ramos. As it was, Sutton prosecuted them for attempted murder that would have given them up to life in prison.

Yes. He did. The Congressional laws limit what the judge can do.

There's a guy on Al Rantel's show now who says Sutton found the drug dealer in Mexico, gave him a green card, offered him immunity, found him a lawyer, and paid for his medical expenses. Is that true?
