Probably hit some of that Chinese satellite "space junk" from the missle test a couple of weeks ago.

Shutdown into "Safe Mode" eh?
Just needed a reboot from the blue screen of death.

They have the engineering blueprints. they know where they made the mistakes last time. The Hubble has been a huge success.
Why not build another, or three more? Seems like a no brainer to me.

The Hubble's trouble.
Engineer rubs his stubble.
An idea to fix it.

I think they have a early to mid 2008 Hubble refurb mission, last one scheduled in perpetuity in all likelihood,, may as well maximize its capabilities as much and for as long as possible...

Abort, Retry, Ignore? You must have a really old version. Didn't that get changed to
Abort, Retry, Ignore? Fail?

Technically, and theoretically, the Hubble is merely a CIA-designed spy satellite turned outwards from earth towards the heavens, and run by NASA>
Company's (unstated) goal was to use the Hubble to "buy" the very, very expensive furnaces and vacuum rooms for the Hubble fabrication, then use those rooms for their CIA/NSA spy satellites.
but they screwed up the Hubble's calibration and testing/grinding control setup -> My opinion is that they tried to use "cheaper" non-classified/non-experienced/ workers for the Hubble -> and screwed up the mirror.
Rest of Hubble's problems - fixed with the long mission several years ago - were not specifically due to grinding/testing/test calibration errors, but were un-related screw ups.

You're close. My guess is they ground Hubble's mirror to the same specifications as they did for all Keyhole mirrors. Only problem is, Keyhole mirrors are ground to focus on the Earth about 250 miles away, while Hubble was supposed to focus at infinity.

Problems from China's inertia anti-satellite test?
