Just caught a piece of this. There was a confrontation on the Mexican-Arizona border between the National Guard and "Mexicans dressed in combat/tactical gear and carrying rifles." Apparently the Guard had to retreat because it is not allowed to fire even when threatened on US soil.
Perhaps other Freepers have more details. If this is true, WTF are we doing about border security?
Whether she writes the ROE, or the feds do, it's worth finding out the details. The investigation began today in the AZ legislature, I'm sure prompting the media attention (finally).
According to the current interpretation of the 14th, yes, according to its original intent, no.
They didn't "retreat"...they "strategically redeployed".
I am presently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma AZ, which is where the NG responsible for the Yuma Sector are currently based. I have the opportunity to talk to these guys all the time. They use our Armory to store their weapons. One Sgt First Class told me most of their OP's are manned by unarmed Soldiers because their ROE's do not allow them to confront anyone crossing the border. They are to monitor and report only. OP 's manned by an officer or SNCO may have a weapon, as well as vehicle patrols. But once again the ROE makes those weapons useless. These guys have their hands tied behind their backs. When they call the Border Patrol, response time averages 15-20 minutes. What's wrong with this picture? What is gonna happen when one of these soldiers gets killed because the rules have hamstrung him? Will people wake up?
According to the current interpretation of the 14th, yes, according to its original intent, no.
"These are National Guard troops, under the command of Janet Napolitano, Democrat, Arizona."
Not a true statement, the troops comming to the Yuma sector have been from Knoxville TN, Charlotte NC, Provo UT, and Salem Or. All have been Federalized for this mission.
Nice to get it out in the open, isn't it?
Absolutely.
The borders are being obliterated in favor of the evil global tyrannical treasonous government.
Next question.
Do a search and you'll find lots of threads on this.
The only reason why the media, mostly fox news, is talking about it today is because there is a 'hearing' scheduled over it. There's also a thread about that too ;)

Link for information about todays hearings.
Yes it is. Too bad we haven't used these past weeks to put bouncing bettys on the border.
I can be certain as to what will happen....
The Governors of the border states will blame Bush.... Bear in mind the Katrina nonsense.... It will happen again... How could Bush be so blind?

There was a movie in the 70's called Viva Max about a washed up Mexican General who takes back the Alamo. He is hailed as a hero by the people of San Antonio. Meanwhile an American militia group called the Sentries are the bad guys.
Also in this movie, the State Dept. wants no one to get killed, so they send the Texas National Guard in with no ammunition. SOUND FAMILIAR?! The Mexicans win the "Mexican Stand-off" (they too left their ammunition in Mexico).
Well, since the "invading army" fired no shots, took no prisoners, damaged nothing, and left, I fail to see what benefit additional "weapons" could have had. And if the NG troops had opened fire instead of doing what they did, it would have been an international incident.
You don't just shoot people for walking into your country illegally. Well, the Soviet Union used to do that, as well as shooting people on the way out of their country (like the BP agents did). But most countries frown on shooting people just for crossing country boundaries.
How about protecting our guardsmen and our country.
And if the NG troops had opened fire instead of doing what they did, it would have been an international incident.
So what? Its already an international incident.
You don't just shoot people for walking into your country illegally.
You do if theyre armed. They have made their intent quite clear.
The administration had better rethink this, if one of these guardsmen gets killed and it is later learned that he had no ammo its going to very bad.
These drug cartels are bloodthirsty killers and they want their smuggling corridors back. As the pressure mounts so will the violence. Personally I am amazed they have not sniped or use an IED on the Guard or BP yet. Mark my words it will happen.
