I actually don't think they are unarmed. They have handguns, I think all of them. There is ammo for the m-16s as well, I just don't think it is issued, because they aren't supposed to be in shooting wars, they are observers. We try not to allow our military to do police work.

So, if 10,000 Mexicans dressed in military gear invaded the US and set up fortified camps, poured in artilery, missiles, tanks, etc., we would just let them be? Not fire on them?

Heck you wouldn't even be allowed to ask them for green cards because you'd be racial profiling.

I am presently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma AZ, which is where the NG responsible for the Yuma Sector are currently based. I have the opportunity to talk to these guys all the time. They use our Armory to store their weapons. One Sgt First Class told me most of their OP's are manned by unarmed Soldiers because their ROE's do not allow them to confront anyone crossing the border. They are to monitor and report only. OP 's manned by an officer or SNCO may have a weapon, as well as vehicle patrols. But once again the ROE makes those weapons useless. These guys have their hands tied behind their backs. When they call the Border Patrol, response time averages 15-20 minutes. What's wrong with this picture? What is gonna happen when one of these soldiers gets killed because the rules have hamstrung him? Will people wake up?

The traitors within our gov't need to be impeached. Citizens must step up, speak out to their reps, and mean it when we say we've had enough.

We need to back you boys, and the NG up on the front lines. Not just in Iraq, but here on our US soil.

You don't just shoot people for walking into your country illegally

I suggest you don't try crossing into South Korea from the north. Or for trhat matter, into Mexico from the South.

I believe that when unarmed civilians manage to get across the border between North and South Korea, the escapees are treated as such. North Korea would probably shoot them if they had the chance, like Cuba would shoot escapees, and like East Germany.

Of course, in that example, the two countries are still in a state of war. We are not actually IN a state of war with Mexico. IF we declared war with Mexico, the rules of engagement would be changed, and shooting armed people would probably be the norm. However, even in wartime you can't shoot unarmed civilians.

I for one will not base my country's ethics on that of Mexico. Although if we passed a low allowing our BP agents to shoot people coming INTO our country if they are armed and carrying drugs, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

It was my understanding that the National Guard carries no bullets for their weapons.

Confirmation, anyone?

This will be my last posting in threads about the BP agents and NG border security, unless anything clearly new comes up.

As much as it seems important to freepers to fight for securing our borders, there are much more important issues to be handled. I believe freepdom (me included) has allowed ourselves to be distracted with petty bickering from the real threat -- losing the war on terror due to the democrat majority.

I urge everybody involved to read the just-released Citizens Report on Iraq, an 80-something page compilation of why we are winning in Iraq, and what we need to do. I thank all the FR contributers to this document for putting it out for us, and for reminding us who the REAL enemy is.

If they make it through the minefields on both sides of the border....
