VIRGINIA NAACP NAMES PRESIDENT
Richmond Times-Dispatch
October 20, 1986

Author: News Leader staff writer
Estimated printed pages: 2

Charles M.L. Mangum, a Lynchburg lawyer, is the new president of the Virginia State Conference NAACP.

Mangum, 52, was elected at the 51st annual convention of the state National Association for the Advancement of Colored People this weekend. He succeeds James E. Ghee, a Farmville lawyer.

Mangum said he plans to "take the ball and run with it by improving on the concepts in which the NAACP was founded."
Enhancing black businesses, the preservation of black colleges and helping the poor and infirm will continue to be priorities of the state NAACP, Mangum said.

He also envisions a closer working relationship among the NAACP, black churches and black fraternal groups.

Mangum said he has been a member of the NAACP all his life. A native of Statesville, N.C., his father, Travis Van Mangum, formed the Statesville branch of the organization in 1927, 17 years after the national organization was founded.

And if we are to refer to the lady as a "stripper," allow me to refer to the men as "perverted stripper patrons."

Well now it isn't fair that the boys get three words in their title & the.... ahem...."lady" get only one. So in the interest of fairness maybe it should be "skanky ho stripper". Or is it "strippa"?

I think this interesting and may explain the NAACP not using this case to push for reform of the DA system in NC that disproportionately affects poor black defendants. However, I don't think it changes the fundamental issues here:

1. A stripper/prostitute cried rape WHEN ASKED when facing involuntary commitment.

2. An apppointed prosecutor trailing big in the polls in his upcoming first electon grabbed on to this case to save him in the primary.

Certainly the NAACP is acting againt the interest of its constituence for some reason. The Duke gang of 88 and various other PC MSM outlets grabbed on to this case for their own propoganda purposes. But while interesting none of this changes the essential nature of this case.

Though Nifong is doing this out of self interest not at the bidding of the NAACP, this possible connection also interestingly points out another problem with the media conspiring to keep Mangum's and other accusers names from us. It makes it harder for the public to see if someone is railroading someone for alterior motives if we don't know who the first someone is. That is if we don't know the complaining witness is someone from a politically connected family, then we don't know to wonder if that is what is driving a prosecutor to go after a weak case. There is a reason why IN EVERY OTHER AREA people recognize that sunshine is better than the government acting in the shaddows.

Letters to the editor
Herald-Sun, The (Durham, NC)

EXCERPT

Cast the devil out

How long will the "religious community" allow Duke to become the Duke True "Devils" -- before speaking out?

Duke administrators have had numerous past allegations of discrimination against their employees. As large cuts in staff/budgets are periodically proposed, the reductions often seek to eliminate low-paid, disproportionately black employees, rather than terminating/trimming the extravagantly paid white top management salaries.

Approximately eight years ago, the horrific news was "binge drinking" at Duke. The students' consumption of beer at a fast and continuous pace not only produced subsequent demonic behavior, but sadly caused certain Duke students to literally drink themselves into a coma. At least one student drank himself to death. There may have been others.

Duke students also gained a reputation of taking parties and bonfires to extremes. Fires began to get far out of hand, destroying property and threatening the safety of innocent student-bystanders and neighboring areas.

I am hoping the "gang-rape" being alleged against the Duke lacrosse team, is not the new-found way for the "good kids" at Duke to suggest their privileged socio-economic status and/or academic achievements place them above man/God's law. I have long contended there is a "devil" at Duke which goes far beyond its mascot. Having a devilish mascot certainly does not help their need for redemption.

As we reflect upon the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s untimely April 4, 1968 death, I pray King's spirit will speak to any injustices the devil may have used to destroy our people. I also pray that Jesus will, in every way, cast the "devil" out of Duke.

The REV. CURTIS E. GATEWOOD

Pastor requests equal justice in rape case
William Barber: 'I want these boys treated just as my sons'
Herald-Sun, The (Durham, NC)
April 21, 2006
Author: BRIANNE DOPART

EXCERPT

In contrast to Barber, Curtis Gatewood, second vice president of the state NAACP, spoke of faults in the criminal justice system illuminated only when "a privileged white man is indicted."

"No one raises the legality of the investigators who investigate us," Gatewood said. "The same chickens who have long tried to convince us to trust the system are roosting and blaming the district attorney ... roosting and criticizing all the normally relied-upon sources that convict black men without question."

Gatewood went on to express outrage at the mention of Tawana Brawley, whose name became tied to the case when it was rumored that the Rev. Al Sharpton would come to Durham to talk about the alleged rape.

In 1987, Sharpton spoke out on behalf of Brawley, who had alleged that six white men assaulted and raped her. Brawley's claims were later proved false.

"How dare they tell us to remember Tawana Brawley!" Gatewood shouted. "Rev. Sharpton did what each of us should do when they hear the cry rape come from someone who would not likely receive justice."

You are right, it does not change the fundamental nature of the legal case.

That being said, the hypocrisy in this mess has risen to a level I have never experienced. I have yet to meet a 'supporter' of precious who believes her claim of rape based on an obective look at the evidence.

They are motivated by hatred, jealously, resentment, and the most important "What's in it for me?"

I, on the other hand, am motivated by the desire to see that justice be done. We all are.

It goes beyond that for me. I will not be made a fool of by these people. As long as they continue to push their own agendas, I will do everything I can to expose their motives.

I will not sit by while they use this situation to reach whatever power grabbing, money grabbing, revenge seeking motive they might have.

It is amazing that the lid has been kept on this so long.

How many NAACP party leaders is CGM related to ?

Nifong: "you will never know as much about this case as I do".

There is some explaining to be done.

I, on the other hand, am motivated by the desire to see that justice be done. We all are.

I agree. Had these guys been guilty guys been clearly guilty most on here would have had not problem with that.

The bigger disputes here are in rape cases where the evidence is less clear one way or the other and some believe the state must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone committed a crime to take away their liberty and those that adopt the rape nazi stance women never lie and the accused must prove consent or they did not do it.

This case really has evolved into at what point will a prosecutor clearly breaking the law be subject to criminal sanctions. If this behavior is not sanctioned by criminal penalties, none of us are safe.

As for why these connections have not come out, I think there are a number of reasons:

1. In the age of the rape nazis it is not shocking that a so called "liberal" group is against defendant rights in such a case.

2. Mangum's name is not widely known among the public. As I said earlier, this is yet another issue with letting the government act in the shaddows. Were Mangum's name out there, someone would have made this connection possibly.

3. The rape nazis would call this blaming the victim and racism so the scared MSM would not look into this.

Duke Case: The Larger Tragedy

By Thomas Sowell

It has now become more and more obvious, even to some people who initially believed the "rape" charges against Duke University students, that there was never a speck of evidence to support the charges and a growing amount of evidence to the contrary.

However reprehensible District Attorney Nifong's words and actions have been throughout this case, it would be a serious mistake to see in this tawdry episode just the vileness of one man.

-snip-

The biggest losers from getting sucked into these frauds are blacks, especially young blacks who go off on an emotional tangent that leads nowhere, at a time when there are so many opportunities in other directions, if they will direct their time and efforts in those directions through education and other serious interests.

The current self-destructive misdirection of energies in black ghettoes cannot be explained by a "legacy of slavery" or "racism." For one thing, this level of self-destruction in black communities did not exist half a century ago, when racism was worse and the black population was generations closer to the era of slavery.

Moreover, a virtually identical pattern of self-destructive attitudes and behavior has been found among British lower-class whites, where none of this can be blamed on racism or a legacy of slavery. (See "Life at the Bottom" by Theodore Dalrymple.)

What the two self-destructive communities on opposite sides of the Atlantic have in common is hearing a steady diet of propaganda blaming all their problems on others, and depicting "society" as determined to keep them down, regardless of anything they might do to try to lift themselves up.

That same deadly message has produced the same tragic results among very different people. The Duke "rape" fraud is yet another sign that the time is long overdue for all of us to start thinking.

I live in Granville County and Mangum is an old Granville county surname in both the black and the white communities.

Ben Chavis is also from here.

Chavis brings call for peace to Wilmington
Star-News (Wilmington, NC)

His speech peppered with the word ''peace,'' a soft-spoken Ben Chavis came to Wilmington on Wednesday using his new Muslim name and honoring the leaders of his new religion: the Nation of Islam.
The most famous member of the Wilmington 10, Mr. Chavis - now known as Minister Benjamin Muhammad - brought the black American sect's National Revival Tour to the city where he and nine others were jailed in 1972 after protests over local schools' handling of integration.

Wearing a bright blue suit and a gentle smile, the 49-year-old assistant to Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said that although Wilmington has made progress since the race-divided years of the Wilmington 10, it still has problems.

Back in the Triad, former NAACP leader Ben Chavis blames "dirty tricks" in the alleged Farrakhan murder plot.
Ousted NAACP director Ben Chavis warned Thursday night that external forces are sowing "seeds of discord" to destroy

African-American unity.

Chavis said that FBI allegations of a plot by Malcolm X's daughter to kill Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan are trumped up. Chavis had appeared at Farrakhan's side two days earlier in Chicago.

As a Christian minister, Benjamin Chavis said uplifting black people was his primary goal.

Now as Benjamin Chavis Muhammad, the former executive director of the NAACP says the Nation of Islam's influence in the black community helped spur his conversion.
``What other organization is taking men and women out of despair and making them upright? There has been a convergence and I have evolved into the Nation of Islam,'' he said in a telephone interview Monday, one day after announcing his conversion in Chicago.
