Bummer. I can cover it with my hand.
(Alternate response: That's some monitor you have.)
It is: it's part of the Acropolis.
feinted=fainted.
sigh.
Agreed, one of the few things muslims have done right was perserve their heritage, even of objects created before islam. Egyptians should be and rightfully proud of their ancient culture. With the exception of the Taliban, most muslim cultures were better keepers of the past them christian cultures (at least until the enlightenment).
This is simple, have both ancient and modern wonders of the world.
I agree. I certainly like the Statue of Liberty, but to say that it's more wonderful than say, the Sistine Chapel, to me is just absurd on its face.
The Sistine Chapel is two wonderous paintings. It is not a particularly impressive building.
The colossus of Rhodes fell during an Earthquake in 224 B.C. The locals were afraid to restore it as they feared offending the god Helios. There were no Moslems around then.

alternate response:
Herein lies the conundrum - we're limited to seven picks.
And the main reason I picked the Acropolis is the methods used in its construction. The Greeks took perspective into account - a true 'wonder' at the time. The columns for instance get slightly larger in diameter as they go up the top, so when you look up the width (diameter) appears to be consistent to the eye. And IIRC they did it with the exterior walls too - they're not right angles, again taking perspective into account. So considering that it is a 'Wonder'.
Sadly, no. The hanging gardens and colossus were destroyed by weather.
The statue of Zeus was dismantled by a Christian Roman emperor who was worried about the worship of the statue. I don't recall the rest.
Alouette stands corrected; the "wonders of the world" were already destroyed before the Moslems had the chance to destroy them.
No. Some of the seven wonders had been destroyed when the list was compiled.
I do have to agree that the pyramids should almost get an automatic bye.
I nominate:
Pyramids
Great Wall of China
Google server complex (Googolplex?)
The Vatican
The Empire State Building
The Trans-Atlantic cable
The Chunnel
Also-rans:
The Forbidden City
The Verazzano Bridge
Three Gorges Dam
The Panama Canal
Golden Gate Bridge
I would have nominated the World Trade Center, also, except for those damned Muslims. I deliberated in my mind about nominating the Pentagon.
Yuck.
>> Acropolis <<
Cindy Sheehan: What! I'm outraged! the US is represented its naval school!
I'm pretty sure jpl meant St. Peter's, right?
Some of the original "Seven Wonders" were destroyed before being listed ... so if you think the New York WTC was a 'wonder of the world", go ahead and nominate it. Heck with the mohammedans.
Neither the Colossus nor the Lighthouse were destroyed by Moslems but by earthquakes. Nor was the Hanging Gardens for that matter. Not that this makes Islam any more acceptable.
