A deal in the desert for Sen. Reid?

A bill he wrote could have affected the friend who sold the land.

BULLHEAD CITY, ARIZ. — It's hard to buy undeveloped land in booming northern Arizona for $166 an acre. But now-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid effectively did just that when a longtime friend decided to sell property owned by the employee pension fund that he controlled.

In 2002, Reid (D-Nev.) paid $10,000 to a pension fund controlled by Clair Haycock, a Las Vegas lubricants distributor and his friend for 50 years. The payment gave the senator full control of a 160-acre parcel in Bullhead City that Reid and the pension fund had jointly owned. Reid's price for the equivalent of 60 acres of undeveloped desert was less than one-tenth of the value the assessor placed on it at the time.

Six months after the deal closed, Reid introduced legislation to address the plight of lubricants dealers who had their supplies disrupted by the decisions of big oil companies. It was an issue the Haycock family had brought to Reid's attention in 1994, according to a source familiar with the events.

And now the worm starts to turn in this news article from the left wing LA Times. Wouldn't everyone love to be able to buy property for 10 cents on the dollar ? Of course, all involved deny it, you wouldn't expect them to admit to a crime. And, it might even be believable if this were the FIRST time Reid has been involved in prosperous land deals with supporters who needed legislation. But it is not the first time. One would have to accept that the land had increased 900% in value or he had a deal to buy at an original purchase price that would have been pennies on the dollar (read: bribe). Because even in the hottest real estate boom markets, none have increased 900% since approximately 1980 (the time of his original acquisition).

What you are witnessing is the still significant power of the MSM to sweep things under the rug when democrats are involved. If this had been a republican, this would be page one for weeks in ALL the major newspapers and a lead story on the networks. I agree the republicans need to attack as democrats did, the difference being they will not have a cooperative MSM, who will either bury it or twist the story to make republicans look vindictive. Rather than Boehner, who is in the House, it should be republicans on the Senate ethics committee that should be out front with this.

Harry Ried would have to be caught raping a 12 year old girl to get any examination by Katy Couric or Charlie Gibson. Although, messing with pension funds might do the trick.
