Uncle John's (Edwards) Cabin
The Raleigh News & Observor ^ | 01/28/2007 | Robb Christensen

Rob Christensen, Staff Writer CHAPEL HILL - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who toured the country last fall talking about other people's homes, is now fielding questions about his own $6 million estate outside Chapel Hill. Edwards had hit the talk show circuit to plug his book "Home: The Blueprints of Our Lives," which describes the childhood homes of various more-or-less famous people, including his own modest mill village houses.

But since he announced his second run for the presidency in December, Edwards has been more likely to be asked whether there is any contradiction between his 29,000-square-foot Orange County estate and his pledge to reduce poverty and help the working poor.

This is an amazing hit piece from the News & Observer in Raleigh. Lots of great pictures including a neighbor that painted "Gulianni for President 2008" on his fence. Edward's new home is vulgar.

"I came from a very different place," he said. "And I have been lucky enough to have everything you could ever have in this country. And I feel a responsibility to help people help themselves.

Help them be "lucky" John or help themselves? If the latter, how would you know? You were just "lucky" right?

[Elizabeth Edwards] said that there is nothing "grandiose" about the house and that it was designed to be a functional home with room for her children to play outdoors

Here's hoping that the 102 acres will provide enough room for the kids to play outside.

Edwards doesn't want other people to have a home like his. He feels that is too much for one person and they should give up their "excess wealth" to others.

Hypocrite thy name is Democrat.

How about an NC Ping for this uncharacteristically damaging piece in the local liberal rag this am.

Put a fork in John Boy after this news gets out. Lie-beral hypocrisy at it's finest.

Link to a HUGE pic (56 K beware) of his home (not that there is anything wrong with having a home of such size, though this particular one is helluva ugly).

It is against conservative principles to criticize Edwards for using his wealth as he sees fit. After all, he earned the money honestly getting large settlements as an ambulance chasing lawyer.

Edwards wants "to help people help themselves." Sure, I'll see you in court.
