Diverse Voices To Denounce Iraq Troop Plan [Hanoi Jane's war protest] [FR DC Chapter opposes]
Washington Post ^ | January 27, 2007 | By Michael E. Ruane

Tens of thousands of demonstrators from across the country are expected to converge in Washington today to urge the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq as President Bush is proposing to send more troops in an effort to stabilize the country.

They plan to rally on the Mall, march around the north side of the Capitol and send a strong message to the government.

The event, which authorities said could draw 100,000 people, starts with a rally at 11 a.m. Among those expected to address the crowd are Jane Fonda, Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon and Jesse Jackson.

The march, organized by the group United for Peace and Justice, is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

~~snip~~

Fifty to 100 members of the Washington chapter of the conservative organization FreeRepublic.com plan to rally near the U.S. Navy Memorial to oppose the march and the participation of Jane Fonda, the chapter said. The actress has long been the object of conservative ire for her support of North Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

"These groups are the ones that are acting as the political arm of the terrorists overseas to help bring about America's defeat in the war on terror," said Kristinn Taylor of FreeRepublic.com.

If he slips through the cracks of the legal system, I still think the remainder of his time in the Navy will not be very pleasant for him.

Do they really think they can get away with their benign sounding names for their organizations too?

They'll sure draw a crowd--who could resist the rare opportunity to hear such massive stars comment on the war, an area they know so much about after years of studying acting?

Isn't it a rule where active duty personel are not supposed to give their pollitical opinions? Wouldn't this be a form of that?

An answer to your question I believe is in the following article.

Well said. You're totally right about them being " the political arm of the terrorists overseas".

I'll be thinking of you folks today. If you see Maw Sheehan throw a pie in her face.

I Googled Madden and found this response to his "activities":

January 17, 2007

RE: Wall to Wall

Liam Madden, care of:
Appeal for Redress
PO Box 53052
Washington D.C., 20009-3052

Mr Madden,

I write in response to the statements you made yesterday at the Capitol and broadcast nationwide on National Public Radio, and which remain posted on NPR’s public website. Specifically: “’We will not tolerate the rhetoric that we must support the troops by funding a war that puts them in harm’s way,’ Madden said. ‘If you are funding a war that puts them in harm’s way, you are not supporting them. You are endangering their lives for a war that cannot be justified, has not been justified and will not work.’”

In an earlier AP story you stated: “Very few people are outright mad at me for expressing my opinions of war[.]” Herein is my attempt to adjust your estimate. Please take notice that I am outright mad.

I served under both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush as Commander in Chief. During the ignominy of the Clinton years, I knew not a single one of my comrades who didn’t bear pure hatred for Bill Clinton, the man. Yet we refused to air our discontent publicly due to our respect for the office of President, and for the chain of command. In fact, a saying was coined which many servicemen could spout quite mechanically when faced with a question about Mr. Clinton: “The chow is good, morale is high, and we support the President; may I direct you to Public Affairs?” (Of course, keeping our discontent hidden from public view was relatively easy, because the few servicemen who broke their silence were not catapulted into public view by opportunistic politicians and National Public Radio.)

The reason that the American military has traditionally been apolitical is simple: There are countries in this world in which the military chooses when and where to fight; they are, invariably, bad places to live. Your actions are a perfect illustration of why service members should not identify themselves as such when making political statements, particularly when those statements involve a whining plea for retreat.

First of all, your words show you to be of low intelligence and thereby disgrace the armed services. Do you think there are any wars in which our troops are not put in harms way? What did you think you would be doing in the Marines? The AP article notes that you enlisted right out of high school—just one month before the 2003 invasion—but that you wouldn’t have “[i]f [you]’d known the United States was going to invade. . . .” Ironically, the article also notes that you “had doubts before the 2003 start of the war ‘when the current administration started inundating us with fear.’” So… you were inundated with fear, yet you had no idea that there would be a war? Your comments reflect shameful stupidity upon yourself, and upon the United States Marine Corps; and upon the average American high school graduate.

Secondly, you are attempting to make a nullity of the sacrifice of your comrades. Like thousands of Americans, I kissed my wife and family goodbye, boarded a plane, and landed in a combat zone, not knowing if I’d ever return.

300 Bay Staters hit road for anti-war protest in D.C.

(snip) – “As the country readies to send 20,000 more troops to Iraq, 300 Bay Staters will surge into Washington today alongside thousands of their dismayed compatriots for an old-fashioned anti-war protest.”

"dismayed compatriots" --- what a crowd, they're "dismayed". (barf)

What diverse about a bunch of aged rabid anti Americans refugees from the 1960s showing up at this protest. Same old faces, same old rhetoric, same old signs. Nothing at all "diverse" about it.

Spare me the terminology.

It's time to stop incessantly pointing out who these people are, we all know who they are and so does the rest of the country.

What needs to be put in perspective is the absurdity they show with the gift of FREEDOM they've been given, because that's what makes America great!! They would NOT be able to do this type of thing in a terrorist state such as Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc...and especially what the terrorist don't want the people of Iraq to have the FREEDOM to do, gather, protest and use their right to free speech.

These anti-freedom American-Haters should be heard and seen far and wide so Responsible people around the world understand what FREEDOM really is even if it allows irresponsible speech and sometime unaccountable actions. I say, show these actions and listen to their words, encourage them to be seen and heard so more people can discover what these people want to really have happen!

These people want America to LOSE the war and terrorist to win!
