AUSTIN - A legislator from San Antonio has filed a bill to kill G-O-P Gov. Rick Perry's Trans-Texas Corridor toll road proposal.
Perry spokesman Robert Black today said the governor will fight the anti-corridor measure.
Democratic Representative David Liebowitz says his bill would take away the Texas Department of Transportation's authority to buy land and do contracts for the project.
Liebowitz told W-O-A-I radio that the Trans-Texas Corridor would "destroy rural Texas as we know it."
But Black says we face a serious issue in transportation infrastructure in Texas.
Black says you have to "think outside the box and come up with solutions," which the spokesman says is what the governor has done.
Perry in 2002 proposed the Trans-Texas Corridor as a four-thousand mile transportation network using toll roads and rail systems.

Interesting to see how this plays out as there are many bills filed that never get the light of day. Not sure what the Senate rules specify regarding bringing a house bill to the floor for debate assuming it gets out of the house. Also the senate has some 2/3rds rule that may or may not apply.

If Democrats keep on doing smart things like this, I'll have to rethink the party.
It's interesting to see all the folks lining up with the Democrat on this issue.
I just hope everyone is consistent in their belief that Texas will never need another road built, ever.

I don't feel good about this corridor. I wouldn't be sorry if it never happened.
We do not believe that. I think it is safe to say that us Texans will build our own damn roads and we don't need any foreigners to do it for us.
And don't give me that crap that we can't afford it. There is plenty of money if they would just use the fuel and road taxes for that and not other pet projects.
The only thing better than building roads with tax money is to let someone build them with non-tax money.
WoC news service bulletin: Michael Medved goes nuts again, neighbors concerned. Had charged that criticism of the Trans-Texas Corridor is another "delusion."
