I must me missing something. Why would they go through all the trouble to pretend to be Americans, kidnap a low level squad, just to shoot them and abandon their vehicles?

What am I missing here?

Is it possible the soldiers weren't fooled by the ruse and so the terrorists had no choice but to kill them?

The soldiers that were murdered were from Alaska.

The raid was likely for the benefit of Congress....folks like Ted Kennedy who is a (fill in blank with an unspeakable word of your choice) and a jerk. His last set of histrionics was just too much for me. Ba$tard. (spits)

In another time the word **traitor** would be used in public, but none dare speak it now.

I think this is the same attack I read about the other day, and that article said that this was an IRANIAN hit job...ostensibly to send a message to the USA??

Also..there was a line in this article that said something about a computer being taken...I wonder if they found THAT.

If not...it could be the "reason">

I left this thread to see what the latest articles are that are posted here.

Two of the top 4 are about our military being found guilty or being tried for MURDER in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Now THAT makes me mad.

The possibilities, in answering your question, are vast. I'd start with "why pretend to be an American" when one is one; but working for the enemy, as one of many possibilities. Could be Iranians, sunni's.

For the inevitable outcry from the lamestream media that the war is "unwinnable".

There are some who are willing to kill themselves to kill unarmed civilians and yet, you have a hard time figuring out why they would take the trouble to kidnap a "low level squad"?

The objective is psychological. The same reason the Germans sent English speakint germans into US lines during th battle of the Bulge. To confuse Americans troops and create a morale problem. The insurgents want to instill doubt and confusion in the relationship between the US and Iraqis working with US troops. If the typical soldier or Marine has doubts about the Iraqi he is leading ,training, or fighting with the impact will be very apparent.

"What am I missing here?

What you are missing is the message, not the results. The killing of four Americans was not the purpose of the action, but a clear message about the planning, logistics, and operations capabilities of this type of asymmetrical action. My best guess is that this was performed by or under the direct supervision of Iranians, not a rag-tag bunch of insurgents.

This attack could be for purely propaganda purposes. Perhaps it was run by Iranian operatives.

To attempt to play to the fears of those of us at home here in America. It is long past time to send in the bombers.

Level Iraq and then leave.

this is obviously an attempt to show our vulnerabilities and weaken our resolve... could be an attempt to now question whether our security details are legit... get us guessing and shooting at ourselves and real allies...

but mainly a play to keep the dissidents in country to blather on about withdrawl... bush needs to answer big by leveling something...

and soon.

The purpose was to convince more American citizens that we can not win and must pull troops out of Iraq.
