Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, the U.S. military confirmed Friday. It said three were shot to death and a fourth was mortally wounded with a gunshot to the head when they were found in a neighboring province, far from the compound where they were captured.
Two of the four were handcuffed together in the back seat of an SUV near the southern Iraqi town of Mahawil. A third dead soldier was on the ground nearby. The fourth soldier died on the way to the hospital, the military said in a statement issued late Friday that confirmed details reported by The Associated Press earlier.
On Jan. 20, the day of the raid on a security meeting in Karbala, the military said five soldiers were killed repelling the attack.
The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team, according to two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.

So, who owned the suburbans?
Fox is reporting the same thing.
BTTT.
That is pure PC BS !
As Patton said: "Make the other S O B die for his country" terrorist cause etc.
I don't recall any wars that were won by turning tail and running.
Some people have a short memory, the Viet Nam retreat was only a little over 30 years ago.
Good point. It's possible.
There are some who are willing to kill themselves to kill unarmed civilians and yet, you have a hard time figuring out why they would take the trouble to kidnap a "low level squad"?
They would.
They were being chased by Iraqi police who grew suspicious...
If this report is accurate....where is the media? Why don't we have breaking news and Fox Alerts? Where are the grieving relatives being interviewed by Greta? Where are the congresscritters decrying this atrocity? Where is President Bush?
The majority of this country has no clue this happened. And I'm in the minority here....but unless our military stops convicting our soldiers and allows them to fight a war.....then I want them brought home. Empower the terrorists? Our Congress is doing that everyday. And it won't stop. So.....either unleash hell or come home.
What? Did you actually read the article?
Thanks, I needed that! I'm so outraged right now I don't know what to do with myself. This is sickening to the core. May the wrath of our military rain down on their heads, no mercy, just a big fat killing spree and screw the Geneva Convention. I never thought I could hate some people so much to where I wish they would die the most awful death - them, their children, their children's children, etc. I hope to God there is retribution for this and may it be swift and deadly.
What the hell is it with AP? First they say the contractors were shot in the head (4 of 5), then they didn't know if they were still alive (I know), which the brother of one contractor said that's not what happened because he was there with his brother working... now this?
How come they didn't report how many they killed of the enemy?
Bastards.
BTW, those two reporters... bad news.
Enlist...
Iran.
I feel the same way.
Iran -- payback for our going after their people in Iraq.
If I could, I would in a second.
None of the American or Iraqi officials would allow use of their names because of the sensitive nature of the information.
This means the story is crap until proven and confirmed. At this point it can be true or made up, distorted, faked, whatever...
"If you don't trust an Arab reporting a story, it seems to me that you'll be hard pressed to ever learn anything about an Arab speaking country such as Iraq."
Embellishing stories is a favorite regional passtime.
Time to confer with the experts.
