U.S. confirms troops' kidnapping in Iraq (4 GIs Handcuffed And Shot In Head)

Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, the U.S. military confirmed Friday. It said three were shot to death and a fourth was mortally wounded with a gunshot to the head when they were found in a neighboring province, far from the compound where they were captured.

Two of the four were handcuffed together in the back seat of an SUV near the southern Iraqi town of Mahawil. A third dead soldier was on the ground nearby. The fourth soldier died on the way to the hospital, the military said in a statement issued late Friday that confirmed details reported by The Associated Press earlier.

On Jan. 20, the day of the raid on a security meeting in Karbala, the military said five soldiers were killed repelling the attack.

The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team, according to two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.

"I must me missing something. Why would they go through all the trouble to pretend to be Americans, kidnap a low level squad, just to shoot them and abandon their vehicles?

What am I missing here?"

The purpose was to convince more American citizens that we can not win and must pull troops out of Iraq.

The only way to win a war is to make the other side suffer.

There's all sorts of ways to win a war. The best being summarised by

si vis pacem, para bellum

Or

To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting. -Sun Tzu, the Art of War

You are right. It's not the same. The soldiers being assaulted and spat upon today are still alive and in service so there's not much to be "gleeful" about if you are a military hating, anti war American.

Hillary isn't the only one who feels this way. These kind of atrocities will gather even more momentum for a withdrawal. And I'm starting to lean in that direction.

You then are part of the problem.

Guess my having a bad day really set off a firestorm. I have no idea what would happen if we leave. Do you?

-------------------------------------------------

We all have weak moments, glad to see you back.

Now, if we left a number of things are pretty certain to happen...

We could never get any country to trust us again.

We would never have an ally again, even the UK would stay at home.

The region would erupt in warfare on a WW2 scale and Israel would eventually be drawn into it which could well lead to a nuclear event.

You would have to buy a bicycle.

The islamonazis would rightly declare victory, leading to increased aggression globally.

Our grand children will have to go back and get it right.

I read some of the replys to the post that you made saying that you are leaning toward withdrawal. Some slammed you but, although I strongly disagree, I will not do so. Instead I say-do not lose heart. Events in war are unpredictable and we cannot know what will happen between now and the end. The only way to win is to continue to fight and I am prepared to do so as are many others, stand with us and we may yet win.

Do you notice the coordination between this execution and the anti-war rally in DC. This is a total sophisticated hit, well-planned, definitely timed. Thank you Jane Fonda, you are a traitor to this country.

You have aided and abetted the enemy from Vietnam to Iraq.

Have Al Jazeera, the NYetTimes, and SeeBS News denounced these warcrimes yet?

This Islamonazis need to be put in Abu Ghraib again. Panties on the head do NOT compare.

Let this be a sign. Take NO prisoners. Lay the enemy to waste in the field. We fight crimianl evil. Those who provide sanctuary to such beasts are not innocent.

I heard some rotten Democrats boasting of how smart the attackers were yesterday. This is how I learned of this story.

I did not have the details in hand so I did not challenge them. I just sat silent and let the jackasses bray.

These were war crimes. Not a single person voiced outraged at the tactics, killing and torturing prisoners, dressing as the "other side", etc.

Democrats ARE antiAmerican. To hell with them.

...the arrest of four suspects in the attack and said they had been detained on a tip from a Karbala resident

Not necessarily.

Iraqi officials said the approaching convoy of black GMC Suburbans was waved through an Iraqi checkpoint at the edge of Karbala. The Iraqi soldiers believed it to be American because of the type of vehicles, the distinctive camouflage American uniforms and the fact that they spoke English.

Sounds like the Iraqi security forces screwed up. Maybe some extra training is needed...like perhaps stopping the vehicles to examine identification?

Jane Fonda swore we would all wish that we could live under Communism if we only opened out hearts and minds to what it really was.

The pinko left marches on and munches on the corpses of good Americans.

"These were war crimes."

The entire M.O. of the insurgents consists of war crimes: targeting civilians, using civilians as shields, masquerading as medics, using secondary bombs to target rescuers of an initial attack, wearing false uniforms, etc. Yet the only talk you hear of "war crimes" is directed at Bush.

There's a lot of payback in Karbala going on. I hope it was worth it to these cretins.
