U.S. confirms troops' kidnapping in Iraq (4 GIs Handcuffed And Shot In Head)

Four American soldiers were abducted during a sophisticated sneak attack last week in the Shiite holy city of Karbala, the U.S. military confirmed Friday. It said three were shot to death and a fourth was mortally wounded with a gunshot to the head when they were found in a neighboring province, far from the compound where they were captured.

Two of the four were handcuffed together in the back seat of an SUV near the southern Iraqi town of Mahawil. A third dead soldier was on the ground nearby. The fourth soldier died on the way to the hospital, the military said in a statement issued late Friday that confirmed details reported by The Associated Press earlier.

On Jan. 20, the day of the raid on a security meeting in Karbala, the military said five soldiers were killed repelling the attack.

The brazen assault, 50 miles south of Baghdad, was conducted by nine to 12 militants posing as an American security team, according to two senior U.S. military officials as well as Iraqi officials. They traveled in black GMC Suburban vehicles _ the type used by U.S. government convoys _ had American weapons, wore new U.S. military combat fatigues, and spoke English.

I'm sure they were Iranians. As you say, they had no need to get out the same way they got in, so obviously they weren't strangers to Karbala.

It was very carefully pulled off, as if they had some kind of definite objective other than just mayhem. If they had wanted to do that, they simply would have bombed the place once they got near enough.

Perhaps there was someone there, or they thought there was going to be someone there, whom they had intended to kidnap. Or maybe it was to get some kind of information they thought was being kept there.

I really only have time for one forum...besides, on FR, when you say something that people don't like, they always tell you to go back to DU, and I honestly can answer that I've never been there. FR tends to be all the negativity I care to expose myself to.

I read FR post almost daily, but I'm not exposed to much glee here. DU must be the only place where that glee exists...I'm glad I don't visit there.

Don't think they were Iranians. They were Iraqi Shia with big Iranian support. This operation cost alot o' Dinars. The Iranians don't do their own dirty work in Iraq. They buy it. They use Iraqi Shia proxies. Iranians, as evil as they are, are too damn smart not to create cutouts between themselves and the operators. Ahmed Chalabi is an Iraqi Shia and Iranian agent. The Iranians play a very smooth game when it comes to false flag operations.

"After Congress cut off the money our troops almost had to swim back home."

We didn't have any troops there, the last of the troops had left two years before North Vietnam broke the peace treaty, and invaded South Vietnam.

I sure hope the 600 Sadr militia that were captured are in the same state.

I could add the sheet of glass comment but that would be redundant.

That's probably true. These folks just seemed so much - well, slicker than the Iraqis usually are.

On this subject, I didn't see the glee, but just like us they have their share of conspiracy nuts.

A few of the DU posters were speculating about Blackwater private contractors having performed the raid.

"If the people who did this are found to be from the Shiite Holy City of Karbala, then Karbala should become a shitty pile of rubble full of holes."

That'd never happen. It might make the enemy not like us....

Now that is a link, that one is so bad that it deserves it's own thread.

It wasn't till I went on there and read some of the stuff that I realized the joke about liberals being meaner than conservatives is true.

The funny thing is the old saying that conservatives think liberals are just people with bad ideas, while liberals think conservatives are just bad people.

I've never really given much credence to psychology, but the idea of projection really seems to be the case with liberals.

These kind of atrocities will gather even more momentum for a withdrawal. And I'm starting to lean in that direction.

No surprise here, if you have been following bin Laden, he predicted this and you are proving him right. It is the essence of his battle plan and to the extent he is right is the reason we won't win. We would have lost WWII using the same analysis.
