AUSTIN, Texas - Liberal Texas columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer, her assistant said Friday.
Ivins may be able to go home Monday, Betsy Moon said.
"That's the day the doctors said," Moon said. "We're not sure what's going to happen, but she's very sick."
Ivins, 62, had taken a break from her syndicated column, which appears in nearly 400 newspapers, but resumed writing earlier this month.
Her most recent column appeared two weeks ago, when Ivins urged readers to stand up against President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.
Ivins, a California native who grew up in Houston, got her third cancer diagnosis more than a year ago. She has undergone chemotherapy.
She was overwhelmed with advice and gifts after she wrote of her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. The outpouring kept her from telling readers of recurrences in 2003 and 2005.
Ivins said last year she isn't giving in to cancer.
"Maybe this is false bravado," she said in the Austin American-Statesman. "In some ways for me, this is like having a manageable disease. It's like diabetes. It doesn't mean it's not going to come get me in the end."

I don't like Molly Ivins at all on a political level. On a personal level, though, I wish her well.My thoughts precisely.

All that anti conservative venom did not protect her against this terrible disease.

How sad.....hope she rises to the challenge...physically and mentally....I wish her well, even though I don't particularly care for her "work."

I absolutely disagree with Ivans about almost everything.
Except that cancer is a horrible process. I wish her the best.

I don't like Molly Ivins at all on a political level. On a personal level, though, I wish her well. As a human, she is fighting a disease that destroys from within. As a partisan columnist, she is a disease that destroys from within. One can't help but see the irony.

I've heard tell that cancer is suppressed rage literally eating one up from the inside. Eh, no.
I understand the desire to smack at Ivins but please understand that those of us who have watched sweet and beloved friends and family die of this do not find that a very amusing commit.
Besides, Ivins rage is not suppressed. :)

Never said I agreed with what I'd heard, Harmless Teddy Bear got my point.
I should have put in an < /irony> tag.
Sorry.

AUSTIN - Nationally syndicated columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her recurring battle with breast cancer.
"I think she's tough as a metal boot," her brother, Andy Ivins, said Friday after a visit with her at Seton Medical Center in Austin.
Andy Ivins said his sister was admitted to Seton on Thursday. She spent Friday morning with longtime colleagues and friends, and was "sleeping peacefully" when he arrived later in the day.
A self-described leftist agitator, Ivins, 62, completed a round of radiation treatment in August, but the cancer "came back with a vengeance," and has spread through her body, Andy Ivins said.

Actually, it's Bush's fault.
I wouldn't be surprised if Molly really thought this.

As a 9 year prostate cancer survivor, I can say you are dead wrong. And I can also say as much as I dislike Ms. Ivans, I wish her well.
