AUSTIN, Texas - Liberal Texas columnist Molly Ivins has been hospitalized in her ongoing battle with breast cancer, her assistant said Friday.
Ivins may be able to go home Monday, Betsy Moon said.
"That's the day the doctors said," Moon said. "We're not sure what's going to happen, but she's very sick."
Ivins, 62, had taken a break from her syndicated column, which appears in nearly 400 newspapers, but resumed writing earlier this month.
Her most recent column appeared two weeks ago, when Ivins urged readers to stand up against President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.
Ivins, a California native who grew up in Houston, got her third cancer diagnosis more than a year ago. She has undergone chemotherapy.
She was overwhelmed with advice and gifts after she wrote of her initial diagnosis of breast cancer in 1999. The outpouring kept her from telling readers of recurrences in 2003 and 2005.
Ivins said last year she isn't giving in to cancer.
"Maybe this is false bravado," she said in the Austin American-Statesman. "In some ways for me, this is like having a manageable disease. It's like diabetes. It doesn't mean it's not going to come get me in the end."
She ain't foolin anyone but herself.
It's a horrible disease, and from my personal observations, dying from cancer is never a pleasant way to go. I wish her the best.
I've heard tell that cancer is suppressed rage literally eating one up from the inside.
My paper is a lot better without her.
If it is God's Will that Molly recover, she will.
Hope she is a believer.
I don't like Molly Ivins at all on a political level. On a personal level, though, I wish her well.
Prayers for Ms. Ivins and her family. May God comfort her in her time of need and reveal His glory when that time comes.
All that anti conservative venom did not protect her against this terrible disease.
I concur
I really hope she's okay even if I dislike her positions.
Prayers for her and her family.

I met her at a friends wedding about 20 years ago and she was a raging lib with an ego the size of texas. Never liked her but cancer is an awful tough way to go. Hope she goes fast and easy.
I wish her the quickest recovery and the rest of her life in happy and healthy retirement. God Bless her and her family.
Of course I don't care for the venom and hatred she writes, and am embarassed that she continues to be known as a Texan.
I wonder why she had trouble getting a guy?
Cancer never goes away.
You may be right. I was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 1998. During the eight years prior to that diagnosis, I was a political activist and freelance writer. Most of my writing dealt with how the government was violating our Constitutional rights. And I spent a great deal of that time quite angry, esp. at Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc.
