NAFTA sucks.

How can I argue with logic like that?

I'm sorry, I have no links with which to bolster my claim.

Your facts are irrefutable!

The only document I have, that might help, is my micro retirement account.

Size doesn't matter. Was it bigger before NAFTA?

Oh, and the ever increasing number of illegal miscreants crossing our borders each year.

Let's build a wall. A big one. Better?

I hope you understand.

Yes. Facts are hard.

Does that take into account the legal and illegal increase in population?

Huh?

I thought not.

You got that one right! :^)

Maybe all of those farmers in the path of the highway should plant corn for ethanol and claim it's for National Security and they can't take the land.

Well, ya know, if "Jerome Corsi, WorldNetDaily" said that water runs downhill then water must run uphill, of course, because "Jerome Corsi, WorldNetDaily" said it ran downhill, ya know.

Because, ya know, if "Jerome Corsi, WorldNetDaily" siad it, it has to be wrong, ya know.

LOLOLOL

"Size doesn't matter. Was it bigger before NAFTA? "

Yes, much!

"Let's build a wall. A big one. Better? "

We wouldn't need a wall if the LAWS we already have were enforced.

:O)

No. As I mentioned on another thread, everything that Corsi writes is not necessarily "wrong." It just has to be scrutinized in the same fashion the NTSB scrutinizes wrecks at a crash site.

Maybe if they bought more expensive stuff their salaries would miraculously increase? LOL!

They should all demand government pay for their college instead so that the college degree is worth less in the marketplace.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? You think just maybe foreign investment helps our economy grow?

In my area, a new foreign plant has recently replaced some of those jobs with good paying ones. Most of the really good ones haven't been replaced, though. Hopefully you and your compatriots are right about free trade in the long term. I'm trying to keep an open mind about it.

If you find one, let me know. But the only really definitive ones I found were from anti-Bush and AFLCIO websites. I have a suspicion that there's more going on than what's alluded to in the labor statistics charts from the bureau of labor statistics. I have based my arguments on what's going on in my immediate area. But the nationwide numbers don't support my hypothesis. And the argument that the NAFTA isn't working in Mexico because of government corrruption and a 1994 economic crash is one that cannot be effectively refuted with the data I have.

The only real argument that I can see is that Mexico has an economy much like ours was over 100 years ago. Only a seriously great communicator (a Mexican Upton Sinclair, if you will) is going to change that. Because right now, it's just easier for them to jump the border into America.

Of late that pretty much wraps it up. I have no problem with this highway and the more I've read about it I support it even more. If Jerry wants to hole up in his unused Y2K bunker let him.

I agree, but let's build a wall anyway.

Who? Poor people in Mexico?

In my area, a new foreign plant has recently replaced some of those jobs with good paying ones.

Excellent!

Most of the really good ones haven't been replaced, though.

Yes, some areas do better than others.

Hopefully you and your compatriots are right about free trade in the long term.

It's not like we have a lot of choice. Look at the countries that try to prevent competition with others. They lose out on the benefits of trade and still suffer the problems you've seen in your area.

I'm trying to keep an open mind about it.

Excellent.

You misunderstand. NAFTA is working in Mexico. In 1993, before NAFTA, Mexico exported $39.9 billion to the US, in 2006, about $200 billion. Your chart in post #46 showed their manufacturing productivity rose 60% between 1993 and 2003. That wouldn't have happened without NAFTA and the investment it brought.

Just because the workers haven't recovered their 1993 wage levels doesn't mean NAFTA failed, it means their government sucks.

Because right now, it's just easier for them to jump the border into America.

They have no reason to reform if they can export their poor to America. That's another reason we need a wall, for the benefit of Mexico.

Golly, someone who knows the score and wants it to happen. I though everyone just couldn't believe it because they trust in the inherent goodness and patriotism of politicians.

I was born cynical and suspicious, with the urge to "anticipate the evil, and judge of the pressure of the grievence by the badness of the principal", and "augur misgovernment from a distance, and snuff the approach of tyranny in every tainted breeze." (Edmund Burke, 1774)
