In my area, a new foreign plant has recently replaced some of those jobs with good paying ones. Most of the really good ones haven't been replaced, though. Hopefully you and your compatriots are right about free trade in the long term. I'm trying to keep an open mind about it.

It's not like we have a lot of choice. Look at the countries that try to prevent competition with others. They lose out on the benefits of trade and still suffer the problems you've seen in your area.
