SHEIK Taj al-Din al-Hilali pulled out of giving the Friday sermon at his Sydney mosque today after being warned to tone down his "freak show" rhetoric.
Members of the Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA), which runs the popular Lakemba mosque, intercepted Australia's most senior Muslim cleric on his way to give the sermon.
LMA president Tom Zreika said the sheik pulled out after being told his sermon had to be apolitical, avoiding talk of the Lebanese Muslim candidates expected to run at the March state election.
The sheik yesterday ruled himself out of running, but said he would endorse the candidates, possibly all women, who are expected to run in the Sydney seats of Lakemba, Burwood and Auburn.
The sheik must give the LMA an undertaking that his sermons will be apolitical before he is allowed to give another sermon at the mosque, Mr Zreika says.
"The mosque is not going to become a campaign office," Mr Zreika said, adding the LMA has nothing to do with the candidates, who are yet to be named.
The LMA's move is sure to meet with opposition as the sheik is popular at the southwestern Sydney mosque that regularly attracts thousands to Friday prayers.

Now if they could get to "Mookie" al_Sadr and Amadingynutjob, the world might return to some degree of "normalcy"...
That's no freak show. It's just the ramblings of the average psycho-Muzzie mind. This mutant Mullah simply voices the thoughts of many OZ Muslims, moderate and otherwise. His best riff is where says Muslims have more right to Australia than those descended from the original Anglo settlers because those settlers came as convicts. Other psycho Muzzie claim is that Afghans settled Australia first because there are camels there. I don't get the logic on that one
Did the moozies bring the camels out as sex slaves???
In 2004, the Mufti gave an earlier series of interviews in the Middle East. In these interviews, he suggested that Australia was originally a Muslim country and that Aborigines followed Islamic customs:
the Mufti ... claims Alice Springs bears a resemblance to the holy Muslim city Mecca and was called that by early Afghan settlers. "The Europeans issued a false birth certificate for [Australia] when British seafarer Captain James Cook reached it. Australia already had the most ancient race of men on the face of the earth - the Aborigine people."
The Mufti said many Aboriginal customs resembled Islamic practices - including circumcision, marriage ceremonies, respect for tribal elders and burial of the dead. All customs that show they were connected to ancient Islamic culture before the Europeans set foot in Australia.
..the Mufti said Muslim call to prayer was heard in Australia before a church bell. "The best evidence of this is the hundreds of mosques in the centre of Australia built by the Afghans. Some of them were destroyed, others were turned into Australian archeological museums and still others remained unharmed and they bear a history that proves that Islam has roots and ancient connections to Autralia ...
The Mufti said he had found a map of Alice Springs under the name Mecca. (The Daily Telegraph 19/02/04
Why would the Mufti make such extraordinary claims? Perhaps because it is held within Islam that a country which has once been part of the Islamic world must remain forever within it. Therefore, if Australia has a Muslim history, predating Christian settlement, the Mufti can regard it as being rightfully Islamic.
I wonder if the engineers of multiculturalism are up to speed on this: that the leading representative of Islam is not interested in Islam being just one religion amongst many in Australia, but is effectively making claims of right over Australia - and that he is bold enough to do this already when Muslims are as yet only a small percentage of the population.
You have to wonder how all this will play out in the future.
Old Afghan Mosque, Maree, South Australia
Pioneering Afghans
The Afghans came to Australia without women and often intermarried with the Aboriginal population. Eric Sultan, who is of Afghan, Aboriginal and Irish descent, is very proud of his mixed background. Jokingly, he calls himself a liquorice all-sort.
Erics grandfather came to Australia from Kandahar in the late 1860s to drive camels for the early Outback pioneers. He started off around the Maree area and then went on to Oodnadatta, he said, referring to places in South Australia. I heard that he came up into Central Australia but that he also went up into the Queensland area as well.
The completion of the Ghan railway and the arrival of the motor car put the Afghan cameleers out of work. Forced to integrate into mainstream Australian society, they let their camels loose to become feral and took up jobs as horsemen, drivers and farmhands. In the process, they also abandoned their religion. It is only recently that Eric Sultan has got back in touch with his Afghan, Muslim roots and he now attends a small mosque on the edge of Alice Springs.

American Muslim History
A Chronological Observation
By Fareed H. Numan (December 1992)
(Edited by Ishaq Zahid for islam101.com)
Unquestionably, Muslims have made an impact on the evolution of American society. Historically Muslims have made major contribution, e.g. humanities, the sciences, and art. They explored North America 300 years before the so-called "discovery" of the New World by Christopher Columbus. They used the Mississippi river as their access route to and from the continent's interior. Here are a few glimpses of Muslim life in American History:

Textbook on Arabs removes blunder
By George Archibald
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
An Indian tribe has forced distributors of an Arab studies guide for U.S. teachers to remove an inaccurate passage that says Muslim explorers preceded Christopher Columbus to North America and became Algonquin chiefs.
Peter DiGangi, director of Canada's Algonquin Nation Secretariat in Quebec, called claims in the book, the "Arab World Studies Notebook," "preposterous" and "outlandish," saying nothing in the tribe's written or oral history support them.
(none)
The 540-page book says the Muslim explorers married into the Algonquin tribe, resulting in 17th-century tribal chiefs named Abdul-Rahim and Abdallah Ibn Malik.
Mr. DiGangi said the guide's author and editor, Audrey Shabbas, and the Middle East Policy Council (MEPC), a Washington advocacy group that promoted the curriculum to school districts in 155 U.S. cities, have been unresponsive to his concerns since November.
But Ms. Shabbas said this week the passage was removed immediately from subsequent copies, and that she was "giving careful and thoughtful attention" on how to notify the 1,200 teachers who have been given copies of the book in the past five years.
"As the editor of the 'Notebook,' when I heard from Mr. DiGangi that a citation in the work was not borne out by either Native American written records or by oral traditions, I was grateful that the statement could so easily be removed," she said.
She did not explain how the false information got into the curriculum.
"There was no [scholarly] peer review," said Mr. DiGangi, who says he was never contacted after lodging his complaint. "It was so outlandish. It never should have gone to press."
Jon Roth, MEPC's program manager, yesterday said the group has decided to remove the two-page chapter called "Early Muslim Exploration Worldwide: Evidence of Muslims in the New World Before Columbus."
"It is not, nor has it ever been, our intention to spread lies or untruths," Mr. Roth said.
Meanwhile, the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation this week issued a report that is critical of "Arab World Studies Notebook."
The study, titled "The Stealth Curriculum: Manipulating America's History Teachers," reviewed many curriculum supplements and "professional development" programs aimed at schoolteachers.
"It appeared that the creation and dissemination of these materials, often through professional development institutes and [teacher] in-service programs, had fallen into the eager hands of interest groups and ideologues yearning to use America's public school classrooms to shape the minds of tomorrow's citizens by manipulating what today's teachers are introducing into the lessons of today's children," the Fordham study concluded.
Mr. Roth said the "Arab World Studies Notebook" is the primary reference text used in the council's program of teacher workshops conducted by Ms. Shabbas, which have numbered more than 268 in 155 cities since 1987.
The book, offered at a markdown of $15 from $49.95, has 90 readings and lesson plans covering the history and culture of the Arab world, the broader Middle East and Islam worldwide. "A lot of teachers use it," Mr. Roth said.
Chester E. Finn Jr., Fordham Foundation president, said the new "cottage industry" of "predigested supplemental materials" and professional development for history and social studies teachers was intended to help teachers who had little or no background in certain areas, and because textbooks are often insufficient.
"How could we expect them to handle complicated and emotionally charged subjects like the Holocaust and figure out what lessons to learn about it? To escort youngsters safely through the thicket of political correctness and ethnic politics that now surrounds such benign holidays as Columbus Day and Thanksgiving?" he asks in the preface of the foundation's report.
The void in teachers' knowledge and instructional materials has been filled by publishers, universities, research groups and think tanks, advocacy groups, cable networks, film producers and itinerant teacher trainers, Mr. Finn said.
"We know staggeringly little about how good these materials and workshops are how accurate they are, whether the information they present is balanced and accurate. We know even less about the efficacy, value or intellectual integrity of innumerable workshops, institutes and training programs in which teachers participate," he said.
The report, written by Sandra Stotsky, former senior associate commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Education, described the "Arab World Studies Notebook" as "propaganda."
The chapter written by Ms. Shabbas and Abdallah Hakim Quick claims that Muslims from Europe were the first to sail across the Atlantic and land in the New World, starting in 889, the report says.
"The idea that English explorers met native Indian chiefs with Muslim names in the middle of the Northeast woodlands sounds almost like something a Hollywood film writer dreamed up for a spoof," the report says.
The current 1998 edition of the "Notebook" has "no evidence or documentation to support key historical 'facts' that serve to advance their political views or religious beliefs," the report says.
"One can only wonder if this has ever been questioned by the teachers who use its materials, or if they feel they must agree to any claim made by Muslims as an 'alternative perspective' or risk being labeled insensitive, Eurocentric, or racist."
History of Camels in Australia Camels
A man named Horrock brought the first Dromedary Camel (Dromadeus bactrianus) to Australia on the 12th October 1840, at Port Adelaide in South Australia. It was the only survivor of a group of camels that was shipped from the Canary Islands, north-west Africa.
Two other camels arrived later that year and by the 1860s, they were arriving by their hundreds, most were to establish the Thomas Elders Beltana stud in South Australia, in 1866. They were also used for the increasing demand of the exploration and transport of inland Australia. The camels that were bred in these studs were more superior in quality that their counterparts in the camels native India and Pakistan, but the camels from these parts of the world were still being imported till 1907, because of the large necessity of cheap camels.

(And now I think we have some 750,000 of them feral in the interior...some we sell to Saudi Arabia.)
I still reckon the sex-slave theory sounds better...

When I was at Woomera, one of the civilian contractors hit one on highway while driving his little old Holden 2 door hatchback back up from Adelaide. The car was totaled, the camel got up and ran off into the Bush, and our mate Nigel spend six months in hospital with a broken back, leg, and other assorted injuries!
Muslims in Australia (from an islamic website)
The history of Muslims in Australia dates back to the 17th century, well before European contact with the mainland. The Makassan traders from Indonesia had a harmonious relationship with the Indigenous people of northern Australia.
The early fleets of settlers also used Muslims, from coastal Africa and the islands and territories under the British Empire, as slaves and navigators.
There were also a number of convicts who were sent to Australia for the crime of disobedience. Most of these early Muslims inter-married with the local community and their descendants were assimilated into the society.
However, in the 1860s a large number of "Afghan" cameleers arrived in Australia to work the camel trains which opened up the interior of the continent.
They also accompanied the great explorers and were instrumental in guiding the teams through the hot and arid terrain. They eventually settled in the areas near Alice Springs and in the Northern Territory and many inter-married with the Indigenous population.
The remains of the oldest mosque in Australia is situated near Maree in South Australia and the Great Mosque of Adelaide was built by the descendants of the cameleers...

(I have a dog that thinks he's a muslim, he thinks he owns every tree-trunk he pee's on.)
This is part of the MO all around the world. To 'prove' they are entitled to take your country for allah they re-write history to show how they were there before YOU were. If muslims were in America before Columbus 'discovered' it- the continent belongs to them.
Ditto Australia.
Governments don't mean a thing to them. Manmade laws are inferior to the laws of allah. I'm surprised to you had to ask.
What I was saying is the Baptist preachers can't get in a pulpit and say Clinton is a whore monger and a lier without losing their IRS exemption. It should be the same for muzzies that say democracy sucks. In fact, if they go too far, I don't think it would be that hard to make a sedition case on them. If we can ban the Turner diaries, why not the Koran?
because islam is one of the world's three great religions? Sarc.
ROTFLMFAO!
La ilaha ill-Allah, mohaMAD rasul allah! (The shahadah)
Oops... I just became a muzzie! Now beg for mercy before I steal your land and slaughter those who refuse to "submit to the rock god."
Seriously tho, by their logic, they admit in their minds, simply letting islamic traders in gives them a right to a claim. Fine with me, as long as Dutch, Portugese, English, Chinese, Indo-Aryans etc have a claim on any muslim land they ever set on.
Oh wait.. it doesn't work that way, and we are still blindly letting them in to pee on our tree trunks and practice sharia, so in centuries to come they can point back to these "muslims settlements" in the heart of the Darul Harb as justification for jihad. They may be whining hypocrites, but we can never say we were not forewarned.
